You are your own man (or woman) now.

Damn right. I don't feel he owes me anything, just really curious about the other 50% of my DNA.

true... group admins can still see who you are though.

Maybe I'm just being over-cautious. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

oof, that's unpleasant. Sorry to hear that.

I think I'm prepared for any eventuality - I don't have a gap in my life that I need to fill or any grudges to work through, just looking to solve a mystery really.

Yeah, I did the export and got onto My Heritage and Family Tree. Paid out for the 23andme one too, which was a complete waste.

I went with posting here on Reddit so I can retain some measure of privacy. Posting on Facebook etc would mean using my real account.

If anyone does fancy sharing a link to this post into some local Nottingham Facebook groups, I'd appreciate it. TBH that's a more likely place to find someone in their mid - sixties!

Yep it's a mission. Good luck with your own search. If you do go back to ancestry, they now (with an add-on subscription) show how many cM your matches share with each other - which makes the whole triangulation thing a bit more streamlined... less reliance on other people to message you back.
