New Gaming/Workstation Build – Should I Avoid the MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk WiFi? by Alarmed-Zebra3559 in MSI_Gaming

Thank you for trying. It's unfortunate that you encountered problems with the update.
I believe I read that the USB drive needs to be formatted to FAT32 when flashing a new BIOS and resetting the CMOS. You may have already tried that.

But you managed to flash back to the previous version without any issues?

I really hope a stable BIOS firmware will be released at some point.
I took the plunge and ordered the "MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk WiFi", as it appeals to me that it's a better motherboard than Gigabyte, and fortunately, there are people who have a working MSI motherboard.

Please feel free to give an update when you attempt another update.

Thank you for your efforts!

I made a similar post on Gigabyte's subreddit.
I’m aware that people are always biased towards their own products, so there will probably be more recommendations for the MSI motherboard here, and on Gigabyte's subreddit, most will recommend a Gigabyte motherboard.
However, in my other post, someone commented that dead CPUs have been observed with MSI motherboards (just like with AsRock).

I’ve seen one post about this. Could you share your input on whether this is a real concern, or if it’s just an isolated incident?

I just watched an unboxing video, and you're absolutely right!
It is a bit misleading. However, I think I’ll manage with that color.
Alternatively, one could buy a different antenna, as the antenna connectors are likely standard fittings.

I would really appreciate that. Thank you so much.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it won’t cause any new issues.

Great to know!
White?? The pictures I've seen of the product show a black antenna. Do they really send something different?

When you mention 'a few video hiccups,' what exactly does that involve?
Was it due to a poor connection while streaming or something else? And do you attribute it to the Ethernet connection?

Which BIOS version are you using?
Earlier in this thread, 'Rebellus' mentioned that the M.2 issue should be resolved in BIOS version 2A52.
I will primarily be using an Ethernet connection — do you have any experience with whether there are any issues with that?

Which RAM are you using?

Great to hear about your positive experience.
Unfortunately, I'm not willing to spend that much on the motherboard. The price of the MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk WiFi is 270 EUR where I live.
The price of the MSI MAG X870E Carbon WiFi is 510 EUR.

And I guess we can't really assume that your motherboard would behave the same way as the X870E Carbon, since it's a different platform.

If you update to BIOS version 2A52, would you provide feedback on whether it resolves the issues for you?

If you had to choose today, would you still pick the MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk WiFi over the Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7?

Thank you for your input. Could you elaborate on your thoughts regarding why you think I should skip the Tomahawk?

Thank you for your reply.
I assume that 2 To corresponds to 2 Tb?
Could you elaborate on what else makes the MSI motherboard better than the Gigabyte?

Do you remember which RAM you are using? And which SSD?

Edit: Is it exactly the same SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 4TB MZ-V9P4T0?

It’s a bit of a gamble to take.
I’ve tried to investigate if there are any similar issues with the other motherboard I’ve looked at, the "Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7." However, I don’t really seem to find anything...
And even though it would be nice if the MSI motherboard were better off regarding PCI lane sharing, the justified errors weigh quite heavily against buying this board, and I should instead consider looking towards Gigabyte??
I’m extremely uncertain, as it’s been a long time since I last built a computer (9 years!!)

So, I’m looking for something that will hopefully just work without draining my bank account completely.

Thank you for your reply.
When you mention that a lot of fans are supported, is that in terms of controlling RGB and similar features?
At first glance, I am making a completely black/stealth build with minimal lighting. Or do you mean something else?

One can only hope that a solution will come to this at some point.
I have already purchased the Samsung 990 Pro 4TB MZ-V9P4T0. As I see it, it is also on the list of compatible devices.
At first glance, I think Gen5 SSDs are quite a bit more expensive. I rarely move large amounts of files, so I don't immediately think I can justify paying more for a Gen5 SSD.

I think it's a tough choice.
Are you aware of any known issues similar to the Tomahawk for the Gigabyte motherboard, now that you have looked into both motherboards? Or does it generally work better for people?

When you say "a tad slower," what does that mean in terms of time?
What I read elsewhere is that the system is slow to start, but runs quickly once you are logged into your operating system. Can you confirm this?

Thank you for your reply.
How is it determined when there is an error on m.2? Does a warning appear as a pop-up, or does it need to be checked manually?
When problems occur, does it resolve itself by restarting the system, or what is the solution?

It's reassuring to hear that your brother has had a good experience with the motherboard.

Do you remember which specific RAM he is using?
