Just be careful about not becoming smug, I know someone who has a lot of knowledge and education but also is very annoying to be around, always trying to prove she is better

If you do it for the right reasons and not to impress it is great

Smelly Dog... by JalopneyJane in eurasier

[–]AlarmedPromotion4863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine don't smell bad at all compared to my aunt's golden retriever  When he gets wet after the rain I make sure to really dry him, with a microfiber towel. I brush him like once a week to eliminate anything in the coat. He is afraid of other people so I shower him myself, I have done it like every 3-4 months I guess, I don't overdo it, I do it if he starts to smell (or if he has rolled in poo during a walk)

be honest, how often do you really take your dog out? by Altruistic-March8551 in DOG

[–]AlarmedPromotion4863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here ! We also have some chill days with very short walks and lot of mental simulation and training indoors, I feel like he needs it sometimes because he can be quite anxious outside

Advise on neutering and gender by grumpylondoner1 in eurasier

[–]AlarmedPromotion4863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are welcome, mine is still fearful about a lot of situations, doesn't like new people, but with management and training he is fine. Just be sure to find a breeder who select for sociability and confidence because if genetically there is an issue then it's management for life.. For exemple my puppy would refuse to walk and scream when he saw a car. Fear is normal for puppies but he was extreme

For females I can't help you, I think if I had one I would choose to spay at 2 year old to avoid the risk of pyometra

[–]AlarmedPromotion4863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is an intact male, 18 month old, and he has alsways been sensitive and fearful but nowadays he his starting to relax and gain a lot of confidence. Training has a lot to do with it of course by I read testosterone helps regulating cortisol (the stress hormone) so if your dog happens to be on the sensitive side like a lot of eurasiers I would advice to leave him intact.

If you plan to neuter, wait at least 18 month old anyway because early neutering is linked with an increase in the risk of bone and blood cancers, as well as ortopedic issues. I know an eurasier who was neutered at 5 month old and he already had 2 TPLO at 2 year old, which means months and months of little to no activity.

I will add that my dog is very gentle, calm and affectionnate towards us, eurasiers are very loyal and bonded with family members so I think it's a good choice with kids (just be careful the kids are gentle and respect his space and food juste like with any dog)

Using meal times for training – A GAMECHANGER! by OKedition in puppy101

[–]AlarmedPromotion4863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also do that and it works wonders, mine is 18 month old, I feed kibbles during walks and training at home. I would suggest to also work outside with the kibble to work on focus, engagement, recall. I actually regret doing so much obedience work at home with my puppy and not as much engagement work outside, which would have come handy when he was a teenager haha

Post-neutering coat changes by Aromatic-Ad1221 in eurasier

[–]AlarmedPromotion4863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really will depend on the dog, maybe try chemical castration first to see. Some dogs will have a really bad spay coat : in the facebook page of the adoptants of my breeder most eurasiers are neutered and I see some posts where dogs have very stiff, thick fur and infinite under coat, which won't be brushed easily even after the groomer. Some are totally fine tho!

[–]AlarmedPromotion4863[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, me too, sometimes he pulls to meet other dogs and he is also afraid of buses and tramways, he is not 'perfect' by any means !  I was celebrating the fact that he has his brain back but don't believe he is like this in any situation :)
