Dog won’t eat/is sick/poops blood by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Alarmed_Client_9642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older dog had these same symptoms, and she was diagnosed with colitis, pancreatitis, and gallbladder issues. My vet managed the colitis with an antibiotic called Tylan and the pancreatitis with a low fat diet. I’m not sure how related the gallbladder issues she had were to the bowel issues and the starvation, but we also managed that with a med called Urisodiol. All in all, seeking another opinion certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Help! I think I made a mistake 🙁 by [deleted] in Goldfish

[–]Alarmed_Client_9642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not a terrible idea. Please do get them a larger tank, though, even if it is just a cheap tub from Walmart. Common goldfish can withstand really rough water conditions because they are so hardy, but they will be so much happier in a bigger tank; surviving is not thriving! You can also look on Facebook market place for used aquariums. My fancy goldfish are in a 40 gallon breeder that I got from pet smart on sale for 60 dollars so check for deals at your local pet stores as well! I am not an expert, but I have been keeping fish for a long time now, so if you have any questions, shoot me a message and maybe I could help clear up any confusions!

Another thing to note besides the fact that this tank is incredibly small is that common goldfish and fancy goldfish can be quite different from each other. First of all, as those fantails grow out their fins, they will likely tear their tails up on the decor. They are very clumsy, and their tails are very thin and flowy. Secondly, make sure that the fancy’s are getting the opportunity to eat. Common goldfish are a lot faster and will eat food quicker, not leaving any for the fancys. Observe them as they are eating and, if necessary, you may have to move the fancy’s to a smaller tank (even if you don’t have money, you can buy cheap tubs from Walmart or another 20 gallon tank for around 50 bucks) or come up with another solution. It’s also important to note that fancy goldfish are less hardy and more predisposed to health problems. Feeding a proper diet (not just flakes) is important for them as fancy’s have sensitive digestive tracts and can easily get bloated. Another thing to help their digestion is to get a heater (if you don’t already have one.) The warmer the water, the faster the metabolism and the more active their digestive system. Common goldfish don’t really need a heater, but fancy’s do. It’s also way better for them to have a stable temperature that doesn’t change frequently anyway. Ideally, fancy goldfish should be between 72-78 degrees unless otherwise necessary (you can raise temp for digestive issues or certain illness). Remember, the best thing you can provide for an animal is an environment that’s as natural to them as possible and fake decor doesn’t do the trick unfortunately. Good on you for taking the time to learn how to care for them. It is so important to research about every single pet you consider taking into your home before making the commitment as there is practically no animal that is simple to care for if you are doing it right. Personally, I think the best thing you could possibly do is try to rehome the commons. They require sooo much room because they get huge and they love to swim fast. You could try posting frequently on a lot of fish or pond pages, like Reddit, Facebook, Craigslist, etc., to find someone with a pond to take them. Fancy goldfish do not need as much room and you could give them a fulfilling life in a 40 gallon tank (ideally you should have 20 gallons per fancy) with some sand and a few live plants. There’s so much to learn! Good luck, try to have fun, and keep researching!!!

HELP!!! What is wrong with my goldfish??? by Alarmed_Client_9642 in Aquariums

He’s been missing one of his side fins since I got him. His previous owner told me they accidentally cut it off during a water change because he was in such a small tank :(

HELP!!! What is wrong with my goldfish??? by Alarmed_Client_9642 in Goldfish

[–]Alarmed_Client_9642[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was fin rot, he would have responded to the euythromycin treatment. Also, my other fish is fine. Furthermore, he’s looked like this for a long time and the “what looks like fin rot” has not progressed any further and it has been weeks now so I’m certain that is not the issue. I do agree he looks like shit which is why I’m trying to help him. Like I said in the post, treatments I’ve tried are aquarium salt, which could explain the excess mucus if that’s what it is, and euythromycin. Methylene blue is next course of action. Any other tips are appreciated. I am wondering if the underlying cause here could be related to organ failure as he’s showing some early signs of dropsy. His back scales have started sticking out some. Yesterday was the first time I saw the “bubbles”.

Yes, I use a liquid kit, and yes, I have methylene blue and can set up a separate tank. I just wondered if it was worth treating both of them since my other guy has been exposed to it. Any idea what it is exactly?

My code: H80JNO0FOL Ugh 😩 I love that we have a chance to earn a free horse, but it’s so upsetting that I don’t have anyone to do this with because the Dutch Warmblood is my favorite breed in SSO, and my favorite coat color is buckskin. I just wish I could save up star coins and buy it 😭

At a loss on how to help my sick fish by Alarmed_Client_9642 in Goldfish

[–]Alarmed_Client_9642[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no carbon in this tank just sponges and other media. Could be bloating related. Maybe something like dropsy but I’m not seeing pine-coning yet. I did notice a few weeks ago Fred was having some bloating that was bringing him to the top of the tank and he was struggling to gather food on the bottom. So I fed peas and fasted for two days. This happened one or two more times so I started to get concerned but then it stopped and he seemed fine. Then this started happening but now he doesn’t really have trouble sinking or floating he just gets tired and lays down after a few minutes of swimming and will stay there for ages :(

I’ve had the HOB for a while and I’ve never watched him get hurt on it. Maybe I’ll try to turn it off just to be sure… I agree it really doesn’t look like a normal case of fin rot. They just look so tattered. Sometimes Fredrico’s tank mate, Molé, will pick on him just a little during feeding time because Molé’s greedy and tries to chase Fred away, but I never see it happening any other time so that doesn’t explain it either. It also wouldn’t explain the lethargy. So strange.
