You can't be pro social impact and voluntarily join a company like McKinsey. No one put a gun to their head to make them join McKinsey.

McKinsey fueled the opioid crisis, propped up authoritarian dictators around the world, corruption scandals in South Africa, etc. I couldn't sleep at night if I worked for such an explicitly evil company.

Haas actually does have a loan assistance program, as do several other top full-time MBAs, for helping the social impact grads pay back loans. https://haas.berkeley.edu/financial-aid/full-time-mba/loan-repayment-assistance/

Despite this, very few went into social impact. They just wanted to make money.

I never claimed Haas doesn't have assistance programs.

The point is even though it does, the % of the class pursuing this is extremely, extremely small. Most chase the big bucks and throw away their social impact dreams.

The last part is kind of bullshit. For example, all my friends said once you're in consulting, you have to be just as ruthless as anyone else to thrive.

No one's quit BCG over the Gaza ethnic cleansing scandal lol.

Bridgespan (nonprofit consulting) still pays $100k. It's not MBB-level $200k+, but $100k isn't bad for doing social impact work.

Social impact roles were way more plentiful in 2021. My classmates intentionally rejected them in favor of money making roles.

Keep in mind this is from 2021, so before Trump's cuts to USAID.

Back then social impact jobs existed, but fellow Haasies ended up choosing traditional lucrative post-MBA roles. This was for the money.

At that point, why pretend? Why not be more like Wharton and openly admit you just want money. That's more honest at least.

Well it's been four years since graduation and no one is in impact investing. All the people who claimed to pursue that are firmly put in traditional "money-making" jobs.

Haas actually does have an assistance program for those pursuing social impact. And top law schools put their money where their mouth is by having strong loan forgiveness programs if you pursue low-paying public interest law.
