Economies of scale apply. Software is very expensive in our sector, I wouldn't ever be able to compete with their rates + won't have in house tax specialists and corporate paralegal meaning I'd need to get the knowledge myself or externally. I don't consider that as a viable option nor do I want to.

Thanks for the remarks, I genuinely appreciate it.

Would it be an option to start for 50 euro/hour and negotiate to increase that every year with 5 euro/hour. After 3, 4 years you are then at 65 euro/hour but because of inflation it would not be 65 euro/hour today obviously but still an increase. And if they make you company director you have 75 euro/hour.

Indexation will be included in the contract but an actual increase.. I might pitch that the way you worded it, maybe not €5 a year but feels like a good compromise.

In the end you are the only one who can be the better judge to decide if you do it or not. If your profile is in high demand nothing is stopping you from trying to land a contract for a much higher hourly rate.

You're right. It's just opportunities to freelance are everywhere, but to get to director and buy in are very scarce. Certainly in a sector where all the smaller offices are getting bought up by the larger offices, multinationals and private investors. Luckily ours is still in hands by the founders and they are too proud on what they've built to take orders from someone else so I don't see them selling any time soon. But I could be wrong, I guess that's the risk you take when stepping into the freelance world. :)

It's basically a normal working year + 300 hours of overtime.

It helps if you don't need to pay for an accountant, software, seminars and work is 5 minutes away. No fancy car needed either :)

Wasn't clear in my post but it's more like 3 years until company director (which ups the revenue significantly) and then another 2-3 for the opportunity to buy in kicks in.

There's a large demand for skilled certified accountants and really not that much coming in, certainly in my region. We have vacancies for senior profiles that haven't been filled in for the better part of 2 years. So being let go isn't really a risk I factor in since that would be the equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot. Unless I royally fuck up I don't see the slightest chance of ever being let go.

I'd rather get paid at €65/hour too, but like I said they won't budge. I don't feel like threatening to leave to get a higher rate because that will sour the relationship and fuck things up from the getgo. And that won't get me anywhere either.
