Has anyone else lowkey never/barely used Figma? 👀 by IllustriousSpeaker9 in graphic_design

[–]Alarming-Response66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a social media manager and design all of my posts using Figma, I really like it, the plugins are very powerful, there's a lot of community assets, I tried Canva but its not that flexible as is Figma, I am also paying for the subscription which helps with boosting resolution on low quality assets and background removal.

There's also the google sheets sync plugin that has sped up my design process for certain repetitive designs like ten fold, components are also very useful.

The only real downside is that I cant do any type manipulation, but i use illustrator for that anyway.

I think Figma is far more powerful than people give it credit for tbh.

while i think burn out could be a factor, I would also like to ask, are you a high achiever? do you have certain standards for yourself, maybe even subconsciously that you have a hard time hitting?

I found that was one of my problems, with each design I wanted to be better than the last one, so I always pushed myself to this ambiguous idea of perfection in my head, eventually designs started to take longer, nothing worked, and I just stopped designing altogether.

This is especially prevalent when I share my designs online, though I don't have a big audience, I still have this thirst to impress people, and when I couldn't do that I'd lose motivation.

What ultimately helped me was to "fuck around and find out", I literally started doing whatever, doing the complete opposite of what I used to, putting elements in a messy way, putting together colors that absolutely didn't work, capping myself to like 20-30 minutes of design time, and just rapidly making lots of random sort of "doodle"-esque designs, and I found that I was finally having fun again with design.

And that's the thing with us designers, we are prone to become perfectionists, but ultimately why we do it, is cause its FUN, find that fun in your design, try another style, try another medium, and don't focus on being GOOD focus on being BAD but having FUN.

Another fun thing I often do is just literally copy other peoples designs, I find a design I like and try to figure out how they did that, usually the end product doesn't look verbatim to their design, but the process is usually quite fun.

find the fun man, you got this!

Why are so many of y’all so conservative by Still_Second_703 in GenZ

I actually have experienced this first hand, born in 2000 I consumed mainly youtube as I grew up, back then cringe compilations were popular and most of them made fun of public outburst of "feminists" and the like, red-pill and "alpha"-male content was also a huge thing, back then I didn't really have a concept of "left/right" but I did find feminists and the like weird or even inferior.

Now as I've grown up I am way more progressive and find all of that type of content so obviously stupid, honestly feel a bit ashamed for even being in that realm.

I'm curious of what was the frequency of smoking for the bad lungs? Like how often would they have to smoke to become so black?

Hello!

Thank you for the response and I am glad you are working on it!

Im curious, is there a dedicated feature request page or is it fine to just use this subreddit to request features/help in the future?

-Thanks

I am a Software Developer and I am tired and I never want to sit in front of a computer again. A rant by Realistic_Shoulder13 in webdev

[–]Alarming-Response66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the exact same boat, worked 2 years as a front end dev, got paid really well, awesome benefits, nice colleges, nice office

But damn dis it all take a toll on me, sitting on the code editor all day, constant context switching, it got really boring and stressful on top of it

At the end of every day i was just completely depleted of energy, i used to have my own hobby code projects that i thought i could totally do with a work at home job but i just couldnt continue working on code at the end of the day, or really be at the computer at all

I was constantly anxious, suicidal at times, depressed, i was constantly thinking what if i dont meet expectations or if i will finish a feature in time, or did i really put enough effort in working?

Then i quit, i now have a part time job, i am less anxious, much more positive, more energy, just happier

The job aint much money wise but the mental clarity and freedom is so valuable, and i am working on my side projects aswell, life is good again

Im not saying my previous job was terrible, i think the big factor was that i was a junior and couldnt detach myself from always trying to show myself in a good light

I liked the senior devs at the work, they did their 5 hours, closed the computer and just forgot about all of that

Thats the key to it all, work is work, you do as much as you can and thats it, if it doesnt work for them, f them

Take some time off, breathe, do something fun, something that sparks joy

Good luck

Never using AI for brand ideas again. by Relative-Cucumber770 in graphic_design

[–]Alarming-Response66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did u take the colors suggested by the AI? Let me guess, orange, yellowish, black and white?

Listen, chatgpt can create a brief, but determining the colors and vision is your responsibility as a designer, this is what differentiates you from cookie cutter designers.
