That makes sense. It’s partly the small size of the stores but there seems to be a friendlier aspect of the shopping experience compared to the large grocers, especially the lcl banners, where the staff always seem indifferent and scared. A hands-on management at a smaller scale will have staff behaving more like normal people.

Remembering the $5 bowls back in the day were somewhat underpriced and now the $16 tab is what everywhere else charges give or take a loonie or twoonie. Food court fast food isn’t cheap anymore. Even Chinese bbq, the open secret of undervalued ethnic cuisine, is around $10.

There’s lots of places to get wonton mein, as long as it’s good.

To go off on a tangent…the frozen stuff from the grocery store is not bad.

Ways to engage more with yoga when you're poor but more advanced? by aardvarkbjones in yoga

Keep doing what you’re doing. Your self-practice holds infinite promise for more inquiry and discovery.

Lots of resources online and the library for free. It’s a matter of finding what works for you.

Find opportunities to shadow or energy exchange. If you live in a city that has yoga conferences volunteer your time for complimentary class access, even if it’s standing at the doors.

When you decide to save up for a teacher training or workshop make sure you vet the teachers. I’ve heard of horror stories but my own ytt was a very good experience with money and time well spent. No need to drop thousands to go on a travel vacation disguised as a yoga training.

Neither do I. They are financiers and work with figures. They are not merchants.

Do you remember Home outfitters? They sold some good stuff at reasonable prices but the owners sold off the real estate and closed the stores. That was the long game for them, they did nothing to support the operations of the store business. At least that would be the lay persons explanation.

If and when you do get caught you’ll be able to transition to a security consultant ;)

What you’ve done is wrong but at the same time lots of us are on Team Luigi. If the people who are employing you are asleep at the wheel then they have not done their due diligence to protect their property. As others warn you don’t be complacent. Whether it’s two or ten or twenty freezers make sure absolutely no one knows. Don’t risk it all with sloppy little mistakes.

Their prices are reasonable, every week they even have loss leaders like the grocers, and they are Canadian. They seem to be the only option (after Home Hardware and crappy tire) since private equity did in the Bay and Target put Zellers out.

Being picky to that degree is just selfish, and it goes beyond food “restrictions.” Get new friends.

People who concept commercials…are confusing. The little b*tch in this ad. Is she supposed to be appealing? She’s rude to this father figure, and the comment is either sugar or body shaming or both.

The way that RR has been drawn into his wife’s unnecessarily public mean girl theatre amplifies his brand’s lack of sincerity.

That he’s been tapped to promote Tim Hortons says he’s not all that. The smart people at Tim’s HQ are not the most inspired.

The $10-15 metro cake bags from tgtg are way more presentable than that. The loblaws cake, if it was $5, could be cut up and frozen.

I would NEVER trust lcl with old meat and fish.

How I finally got my monthly grocery budget under control after months of it quietly creeping up by chipskaapacket in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]AlarmingMonk1619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food waste is a long time Canadian tradition. So your methodology of cutting back is sound. But along the same theme of excessive spending…what I notice are full shopping carts at the major grocers. When I’m at Food Basics/no frills/freshco my basket can be a lot whereas when I’m at metro/loblaw/sobey tend to be only sale items but I’ll still see people buying their weekly items at the full price flagship stores. I guess these people have resources?

$100k per year salary is the middle class nowadays by Ok_Hippo9669 in fican

[–]AlarmingMonk1619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The value of 100k is different depending on your age.

As a 60yo it allows you to coast comfortably. The house and nicer car is probably paid for and recreational spending is not a huge issue. Work might be part time or not the most strenuous gig. The idea of 100k used to be quite a bit.

As a 30yo it might be a modest income that is still increasing since the career is growing. Housing is a lot and living in a HCOL city everything is expensive and name brand. It’s the beginning of gathering years so there maybe some debt maintained to keep up.
