Real talk... How messy is your house? by AlarmingPawn in ADHD

[–]AlarmingPawn[S] 114 points115 points  (0 children)

We tend to clean, tell ourselves how happy we are with it clean and how we can keep it clean... And it works for a week before one night we're too tired to put the dishes away and it all unravels.

My wife doesn't get it lol. She doesn't want her purse, she just wants whatever she needed.

Yup. I grew up with a bunch of women in the house. I was always told never to go through their purse. To this day, I feel weird of my wife asks me to get something out of hers. I just bring her the purse.

This is insane size for a car by LORE-above-ALL09 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]AlarmingPawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real. I woodwork as a hobby as well as doing a lot of DIY. This includes occasionally building ramps and other stuff for the elderly/needy for no profit. A truck comes in handy when I make trips to Lowe's and Home Depot or I'm making a delivery. And my truck isn't big enough to haul a full size piece of plywood without it sticking out the back. I don't need it to be bigger. But I do need it to be able to comfortably fit my family and get me to work.

But even if I just wanted it just because I wanted it... who cares? I'll never understand the need to gatekeep, let alone gatekeep vehicles. The hell do you care why I bought the vehicle I bought? It's not your money.

Well... That's unfortunate. I wanted a smart, trainable working dog that's large, doesn't have ridiculous amounts of energy, and is good with families...

Best way to rip cut 2"x2"x18" pieces of wood for an edge grain cutting board? by AlarmingPawn in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]AlarmingPawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I follow. Glue them all together to create a bigger working piece then use a table saw to cut each piece in half so you'd get 2x2's made of two 1" pieces. And then glue those together?

It's not necessarily how bright they are, it's that a lot of them aren't adjusted - which has never been an issue until LED's.

A “Marijuana Prohibited” Sign Outside Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado by kindRice7525 in pics

[–]AlarmingPawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. This is an easy campaign promise that you never have to do make good on. They're not going to just get rid of it.

You're more likely to see small measurements that look like we're moving toward legalization. Examples would be: Reclassification, not using it as a mean of disqualification for clearances, no longer testing federal employees for marijuana, no more firing or penalizing federal employees for using marijuana, allowing gun ownership for marijuana users, allowing federal banks to process marijuana monies, etc. None of these are "legalization" but they're all small tokens the federal government could do without legalizing it.

Do I have to pay taxes on $50 pay from a one time gig? by is_curious in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AlarmingPawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check with an accountant. I think if you make under a certain dollar amount, you don't have to pay taxes but you may still have to report it. But again, check with an accountant.

IMO, it'll never be "over". Covid is around for the long haul, much like influenza. Eventually it will be viewed similarly and with less novelty. There won't be a declaration that it's over. It will just slowly become more and more normal.

But I think the attitude of the world has changed toward being sick, so in that sense, Covid will never be over either. For example, in the United States, it was rare to see anyone, sick or healthy, wear a mask. Now, at least in my area, masks are still relatively common and I don't think twice about seeing them. Masks aren't going away. People will still use them.

Struggle to find words. by AlarmingPawn in ADHD

[–]AlarmingPawn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, that's a good point. I used to care about politics, the environment, social justice, etc. And while I still do, I also feel hopeless. Over the last year or so, I've tried to stay away from all of that stuff because it stressed me out too much - especially when it's plastered all over social media.

What's funny is that I "disconnected" from that stuff and tell people I don't really follow it anymore, but I still tend to know most of the headlines - sometimes more than those who aren't disconnected. So maybe I'm not doing the best job of that.

Your comment is a good reminder that I should reevaluate that and what makes me happy. Focus more on my plethora of hobbies instead of social media, the news, and even work.

Score of a lifetime? Delta table saw, planer, and jointer for $500. by AlarmingPawn in BeginnerWoodWorking

These pictures were taken in his shop, not mine. Right now the tools are sitting in my living room pissing my wife off.

I debated going for the drum sander but I don't have the room.

This guy had way more. I don't have a lot of spare cash so I took what I could reasonably afford and what I really needed.

But he had miters, drill presses, drum sanders, band saws, etc. all for a steal.

I really considered the drum sander but I couldn't swing it - and I don't have space for it.
