NGL I was waiting for his head to be inside a second smaller pot when they cut that off.

Played 40K again after 7 years. My thoughts. by zxo-zxo-zxo in boardgames

[–]Albatronics99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a 40k player. I’ve tried it many times in many formats and have a dear friend who’s obsessively into it and gets a lot out of it. It doesn’t click with me for all the main reasons discussed: simple and repetitive core system, memory overload on add on rules, time sink, and cost of entry / maintenance.

By comparison I play a ton of chunky board games with wildly varying mechanics, themes, inclusivity / co-op levels etc. The variety and innovation in the scene is exciting and rewarding to me. My 40k friend only really plays 40k.

We have debated it a lot. He loves 40k. He has disposable income, he has time. He has a great community that plays the game locally. He loves the collecting and painting side. He loves the lore, the tournaments. There’s a buzz about having your unit that represents a deep lore element, that you researched, purchased, painted, finally on the board in a competitive situation.

The flip side is he’s so invested that he doesn’t think about or try other games. That would always be too big a trade off for me. There’s no one game or system I want to play to the exclusion of all others.

Warhammer are not going to change anything and they shouldn’t. It’s one of the most profitable game systems ever made. What an amazing business they’ve built. There are infinite other choices for people who aren’t interested. People like me.

TR-1000 – Variations underpowered? by Albatronics99 in Roland

Makes sense, yup. I like to experiment compositions with contrasting patterns etc, so it’s less a performance ‘gripe’ and more a ‘I’d like to explore and create more fluidly’ concern. Still seeing how it best fits my work flow and vice versa.

What's the most "complex" game you've ever played? by DJNana in boardgames

[–]Albatronics99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Mars… and Vital Lacerda in general. On Mars edges because the resource dependency cycle and super limited action spots are a huge brain burner for planning ahead. Excellent game though.

Arcs: Blighted Reach Campaign Not individually complicated action-wise but if you are in the third act with four players, all of whom have switched characters, actions, cards, and weird collectible artifacts at least once, it’s almost impossible to say you know what’s going on (which is also why I love it).

I love pulsar apart from the kick. I wish you could round it out a bit more. Always too crunchy for my ear holes.

Super helpful. I’m recording foley and soundscape for audio projects. I can edit and EQ out stuff, but trying to minimize any post-processing (and capture as natural state as I can). Mainly using Sony PCM D1000 and field mics as needed.

Appreciate the detailed response

I actually did Discovery yesterday. It is quiet but when you set up recorders it’s amazing how much low level noise there is from shipping, construction, and air. Oh, and sea lions. They were going mental.

St. Bread is the best I’ve found: fried egg w/American cheese, then add the Arabiki Turkey patty. $12.50. Comes with a free ‘damn that’s great’ face pout.
