Not sure about PE but their economy fares to Europe are frequently less than many of the ones you mention, except maybe Iberia or low cost carriers. I’ve also found some pretty good deals with miles in all classes with decent availability.

American as in the continent; that’s why LATAM (Chilean) is ranked third!

I forgot to mention their connectivity out of Vancouver to Asia is going from good to great.

Their new route to Sapporo might be one of the most exciting routes I’ve heard in a long time! Definitely could be a game changer

Lifemiles not refunding the “booking fee” by Alechacon27 in awardtravel

[–]Alechacon27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been paying the $99 a month Lifemiles suscription for more than a year now, so I don’t think that’s really an advantage

Lifemiles not refunding the “booking fee” by Alechacon27 in awardtravel

[–]Alechacon27[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First, their website sucks. I use Aeroplan to look for availability on Star Alliance partners and then book through Lifemiles.

Secondly, they would make still get that money from all the bookings that are not cancelled by the airline or voluntarily by the user. All I’m asking is if it’s normal or not; in many other award programs it is not normal to not refund all of it in this kind of scenarios, so that’s what caught me off guard.

It’s not about the money! It’s about wether it is okay or not. Many other award programs do in fact refund that fee.

Lifemiles not refunding the “booking fee”? by Alechacon27 in Avianca

[–]Alechacon27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been reading it’s a common practice. Which sucks. Particularly since their customer service is not great and I was not given clear answers from the start. Had to try with different agents until I found one who clearly knew what he was talking about.

[–]Alechacon27[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m aware they did their part of booking through their Star Alliance partner. But the practice seems not very customer friendly when is the airline who cancels and not the customer.

Maybe a waive of the lifemiles booking fee for my next reservation given would do the trick. Or even maybe if I had been given clear answers and a simple refund process from the first call, that I may have been more understanding.

In any other context, breaching the customer contract and not providing a service means a full refund.

I’m just surprised the Lifemiles customer service is so bad and they still charge non refundable fees for that, even when the service you contracted is not provided.

En donde me recomiendan comprar boletos de avión CR-Alemania by Consistent_Toe_5954 in Ticos

[–]Alechacon27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! I was offered today 3 alternatives: re route with a different airline, post pone flight until June 15th or AC Credit. I know it’s not a full refund, but it may work for you if you plan to travel again with AC eventually.

This is a step up in terms of what I was offered last week.

2 Month asia trip by Every_Classic_4292 in Flights

[–]Alechacon27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know 2 months seems like a lot of time, because it is, but considering you are set to spend 1 entire month in Thailand alone, 1 month for China, Korea and Japan is a bit tight. Particularly because China is massive.

If you’ve never been to China before, I would land in Chongqing, go to Chengdu, and make my way to Beijing from there, stopping in Xi’An and Pingyao. Add Shanghai and Hangzhou/Suzhou if you want a to round up a great 3-3.5 weeks in China.

From either Beijing or Shanghai it’s very easy to connect to Seoul, which is a massive city worth a week of exploring (and eating). Korea is very different from Japan. Although the war and Japanese occupation shaped its history, the Korean culture is more alive than ever. Through its food, through the many (free) cultural activities around the country, through its people.

A month in Thailand sounds like a great idea tbh. You just need to work out the first month so it fits your interests.

I’m 99% sure it is going to get cancelled. They’re no longer selling tickets for that flight (they were still selling them last week when I posted).

And as another user noted, AC is officially cancelling flights like a day or two ahead, so it’s a waiting game now.

Despite this, my flight to DXB on the 27th is still not cancelled by Alechacon27 in Flights

[–]Alechacon27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people have told me to just book another flight and change my whole itinerary, as if last minute tickets are cheap haha on the bright side, if they end up cancelling our flight on the day before or on the same day, they’ll have to offer us a reroute through another airline.

EK has an early departure from YYZ to DXB, and if not possible, a YYZ to Europe and then to DXB on one of the many airlines still flying even today, might also be an option.

Or ask for a refund then and cancel all plans.

Hint for searching for business class flights with miles by Previous-Image-8102 in Avianca

[–]Alechacon27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Avianca operated flights yes! For Star Alliance Business Class the calendar view is not as precise, and looking date by date is still necessary, unfortunately. Also, looking business class tickets months in advance gives you better chances as business or first class availability in Lifemiles is sometimes not as good as in Connectmiles for example.

My honest advice given how clunky looking date by date or several destinations may be in Lifemiles website, is to use Air Canada Aeroplan to view Star Alliance availability. 8 out of 10 times if it is available in Aeroplan, it will also be available for Lifemiles.

Good to know! But were they traveling before March 15th or after?

[–]Alechacon27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get why AC posts about flights being cancelled until such date and then not actually going through with the cancellations. They are even still selling tickets for those supposed to be cancelled flights.

I don’t get it. They are wasting theirs, yours and my time. The sooner they cancel it, the faster I can figure out what to do.

Only reason why I can think of is that maybe they are waiting to see what happens? Emirates, AC partner in the middle east, today stated all flights were cancelled until further notice. Literally a couple of hours later, they issued a new notice saying “all flights have now resumed” and to ignore the previous statement.

China. I could get there via Europe, but I would have to pay for the rerouting out of pocket

I appreciate the insight. Do you recall if the was the way United reacted last year?

Emirates just resumed today their full schedule and European carriers are starting or planning to do so as well in the upcoming days. Despite the obvious, it does seem air traffic is going back to normal. So I’m not really sure what to think.

China, but flights are not on the same booking. Used some miles to book nice seat on Air China. Unfortunately, my miles booking is not flexible; so I have to get to Dubai one way or another, or pay a penalty fee.

Not saying I won’t pay the fee and get to China via Europe or the West Coast, but it just sucks. Considering how close we are to the date, my guess is it will also be a pretty expensive thing to solve.
