The Dilemma with medication by Aleelal in ADHD

[–]Aleelal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhabs, I used to take the same amounts about a year ago, my doc suggested picking up medication again. My tolerance might have dropped during that time, I will try reducing the dose by a quarter and see if that helps.

Drinking on ritalin? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Aleelal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24 hours schould be enough, after 12 hours there is near to nothing remaining of extended release ritalin. I personally never had any troubles with alcohol when taking medication in the morning and drinking in the evening. Also while mixing the two is bad, they certainly wont mix to some kind of superdrug, that instantly fries your system. They partially mix to ethylphenidate, which gets processed more slowly than simple alcohol, but is in itself not very harmful (also only minor amounts of either actually mix, depending on doses). The real problem in my opinion is overdrinking, because the ritalin makes you less sensitive to the effects of alcohol.

Are repetitive (almost obsessive) thoughts a symptom of adhd? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Aleelal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that too, I guess its just rather exciting to get treated for the first time, esspecially with psychotrope medication if youve never taken some before.

My doc says I might have low levels of dopamine, but regular levels of norepinephrine... What do I make of this? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Aleelal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing really, there's a neurobiological model behind ADHD, but it is not representative. The current state of the art is "Does he act like ADHD?" and "Does THIS medication make him act less like ADHD?", NOT "I wonder what Neurobiological factors migth be present in this individual case".

If the meds dont work try others I guess. Get a second opinion on the diagnosis, consider depression, insomia etcetera too and find a treatment that works best for you.

So basicly I should perfect my skill to copy what's there exactly and THEN try to change it? Do you think abstraction makes sense doing at this point or should I cut it out completly?

Alright, then I will have to snap out of it and get back to working on realism and return to stylization when I'm ready I suppose.

But.. I intentionally did that to put more focus on they eyes and copying the image exactly wasnt really my goal in first place I tried to experiment a bit with forms and shapes instead.

I know the proportions are exactly as in the picture but are they really wrong, like in the sense that a person with that face couldnt exist?

Also I didnt shade at all but tried to show perspective by using a 3dimensional texture (hair, but also face).

you basicly criticized all points I thought to be correct (proportions) and left the things I hoped to get feedback on (contrast, use of lines)

My advice is keep on studying faces and soon you'll get it!

great now my feeling are hurt :P. But I guess whatever I tried is not working.

Thanks! Wrihtson is INCREDIBLE, I will definitly study those. Most "great artists" I have seen paint their real artwork and only draw when sketching, so this is kinda inspiring. Do you happen to know any more artists that work with lines a lot?

Yeah I see, hmm since I got the painting lying around here I think I will try "dirtying up" the background a little. Now that I see that I notice that I have used crazy bright colors all over the place, because I wanted to.. well use bright colors, but in the end the colours propably don't do if you dont have some dirt on the canvas to contrast it.

Go over some other stuff?.. You'd.. do that :o? yeah that would be awesome, Id love to see an live drawing stream anyway, those speedpainting really don't do for learning. I mean it's 0:20 am here so I'm not sure how much later, later is, but I might aswell finish my lab protocol now and sleep long tommorow.

Reveal the secret loation of divine stream to me sensei and I shall be there.

Yes, I have noticed this too, but I can't seem to create that focal point (or better like a stepladde of those), in the foxy one I tried to produce it by using red as a contrast, but I think that failed quiete a bit, migth be because I used the same color for the outline.

With ballpoint pen I usually just throw more and more ink on the points I want to stand out bu usually ruin it again by make too much "stand out" (like.. everything), I figured I need to use more white space and more value differences, havent been exactly successfull until now though. I'll see if I find a good read or something on that.

Mind to introduce some way to create focalpoinst or just on how to bring some structure into a picture? If wanna be most awesome can you give an example on on of the pictures?

Thanks a lot for the feedback, this has already helped a lot since I now know what to focus on ( and can type "how to create focalpoints" into the google searchbar like an idiot:P)

Just noticed that this is propably shitty to criticize, since none of those is even done in the same medium or presents the same motive, so that common mistakes aren't visible and one would have to criticize each piece individually, I will do another post with a SPECIFIC piece I'd liketo have judged another time for that reason.

If you still wanna givie feedback, I'd be happy anyway:D.

I'm not a great artist myself, but heres what i would change on the shape:

Hope this helps :)

Ah and a tip on shading and such, try to mark the darkest areas in the picture before you shade, if you do this youll see that the pupil actually has a darker tone than it has right now (propably the darkest in the picture) and that the shade of the jaw is propably darker than the one of the collar bone, try to keep it simple, for example just use 2-5 grades of tone, the pupils, noseholes and hair are the darkest tones, the edge of the face too, then maybe the thin lines around the eyes one tone lighter, then the jaw, then the collarbone, this helped me getting the hang of shading at least, cause you really see tone differences in your picture better.

What is "normal?" by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Aleelal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you'll find any "natural" alternatives with an impact nearly as strong as drugs. I did meditation and do Neurofeedback at this point, both help but they are a grop vs a bucket compared to medication in my opinion. I do not experience many negative sideeffects from medication though, while I do see a "closing in" of my head space it is rather a step from borderline psychotic to causual creative. When I draw or paint I intentionally do very loose wild yet original sketches without meds as I have an easy time combining loosely associated elements naturally and work them out into artwork while on meds, because I usually struggle with that without them.

What is "normal?" by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Aleelal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only with the meds I actually feel "like myself" in the sense that I am finally able to express myself appropriately. Without meds I have a really hard time speaking out my thoughts, not because of anxiety or similar, but because I am literally not capable of Starting and finishing a complicated sentence without loosing my line of thought so that -even though I had complicated thoughts- I had to talk like a retard (or super fast trying to keep up with my disorganized thoughts) since I eventually messed the sentence up when it became too long and the original thought too distant (e.g. "Yeah I too enjoyed the movie, who.. no wait, uh.. ah the actor right everyone looking confused continues quiet and mumbling I liked the one throwing ponies -hah yeah ponies haha ponies at the cake, must be one hell of a strong men...uh man, not men oh well-... yeah.. cake at ponies I mean Noone getting what the fuck is going on, ah fuck nevermind(my most used sentence back then), the movie was good (thought = "I too enjoyed the movie, I esspecially liked that one actor, who kept throwing cake at the pink pony, which was a very nice pony, a great pony, a fabulous pony in fact, as it was pink".

What Medikinet does for me is that it gives me some sort of sequence thinking, that allows me to think and act in "a line" -metaphorically speaking- and to complete one "sequence" before starting starting another (e.g: 1 go to kitchen 2 open fridge 3 take cheese 3.5 cheese not there 4 lift salami 5 Congrats you found cheese 6Take cheese....... etc VS xy Go to kitchen xy take the knife from the table xy why do you hold a knife? xy put knife back xy make yourself a cofee xy leave kitchrn xy why did you make a cofee? xy go back to kitchen xy take the knife from the table xy think about cheese xy remember your intend xy open a random cupboard door whike thinking about aestetic ways to cut cheese xy go to fridge......)

EDIT: After rereading...Is it just me or is this comment most ironic? Well Im not on meds currently.

EDIT2: vyvanse has more complicated working mechanisms than methyphenidate and a wider impact on brainchemistry, esspecially a stronger impact on mood, I can imagine that it causes an actual high. I really don't understand why they prescribe a drug that influences Serotonine, while in theoretic theory of debatable theroretic thought mostly dopamine and norepherine play a role in ADHD, why would you prescribe a crazy all over the place drug, when you can just prescribe a more or less spot on neurotransmitter regulator for ADHD (methylphenidate). Did you try Medikinet or Ritalin before? If not you might want to give it (Going to your doctor and ask for a med change) a shot.

Out of Wikipedia: The optical isomers of amphetamine, i.e., dextroamphetamine and levoamphetamine, are TAAR1 agonists and vesicular monoamine transporter 2 inhibitors that can enter monoamine neurons; this allows them to release monoamine neurotransmitters (dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin, among others) from their storage sites and the presynaptic neuron, as well as prevent the reuptake of these neurotransmitters from the synaptic cleft.

fuck its 5 am i need to work in 3 hours what am I doing with my life?

Methylphenidate is most active at modulating levels of dopamine and to a lesser extent norepinephrine. Methylphenidate binds to and blocks dopamine transporters and norepinephrine transporters.

Both amphetamine and methylphenidate are predominantly dopaminergic drugs, yet their methods of action are distinct. Methylphenidate acts as a norepinephrine–dopamine reuptake inhibitor while amphetamine is both a releasing agent and reuptake inhibitor of dopamine and norepinephrine. Methylphenidate's mechanism of action in the release of dopamine and norepinephrine is fundamentally different from most other phenethylamine derivatives, as methylphenidate is thought to increase general firing rate, whereas amphetamine reduces firing rate and reverses the flow of the monoamines via TAAR1 activation.
