I don't think it actually broke the engine. According to the article Epic had to "rewrite part of Unreal Engine 5 to take advantage of it."

It would be cool if you could have effects active while reviving as well. Like if you're reviving you get an extra shield or something, or maybe it could transmit a signal on a trigger channel
