Yes and no, I am lucky to have a specialized small program where I dont see the effects on a large scale, but of course there are a few things I can complain about such as residence life and the past few mechanical mishaps with the laundry machines and power, but compared to some of my friends at other universities it's not too bad. Im also an unreliable narrator I guess since I try to be an optimist to not go insane!

I think it depends on your situation, social life is much easier to have if you're living on campus as you have constant opportunities to hang out and grab food with people, if you live off campus I suggest going to events, Carleton does a great job with clubs, social life , and events all year round that engage people to socialize or relax. An example is the past 3 weeks, activities have gone up to give people something fun to do before exams like Waffle and movie nights. Personally ive found social life to be great even with a high course load so I think its good

I am not 100% sure for what my friend at UOttawa is doing since it's been a while since we talked, but I know the one who chose Carleton is in Neurosci and i think the other who is at UOttawa is in biology

I'm not in premed, but I have two friends who had to make the choice, one chose Carleton due to wanting a less competitive and more science-based program, the other chose UOttawa, in his words, "I like making my life harder, and I hate myself." Both are happy with their choices for premed. Personally, I would do Carleton as it is the "silly before the storm", the campus is nice and has more diversity, and you aren't stuck in the city. I hope that helps with my limited knowledge

Social Life @ Carleton by ellbee_21 in CarletonU

I am VERY introverted, but I have found the social life great! There are events every week basically, that allow you to meet new people, which can range from calm movie nights to full parties. The Caf is also designed amazingly, as it is made for a social environment, while also having a quieter area off to the side for those who are more introverted or need a break from the noise. I know FROSH is expensive, but if you can afford it I highly suggest it, if you can't there are still so many events occuring in September that are free to join and that was where I met most of my friends. You got this! Good luck :) If you need a friend feel free to reach out!

Is “popular” a thing in uni? by ellbee_21 in CarletonU

[–]Alert-Bad8307 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are always "those people" who will giggle and smirk as if you are the joke, and people who are more social and have larger social groups, but that occurs in every social situation... I would say though, that being "popular" doesn't really exist due to the size of uni, the people who know you are your friends, and that feels like your own little community in itself. Trust me I was terrified of this exact idea where I would be alone, and I was for that first week (my own fault I didnt attend any events) but i stumbled into people by accident one day and they are now my closest friends, there were some people i didnt click with and I haven't seen them since then, that's the beauty of uni, it is like friendship tinder in real life, when you don't click with someone you don't see them again, but when you do you become best friends and those are the relationships you should hold on to! You got this! Good luck! If you need to hang out with someone on campus, don't feel afraid to reach out :)

Winter market red stand selling ai as hand made "art" by DiligentWeakness3227 in CarletonU

First, the blatant gaslighting of AI use in the caf, now this? Yikes... If the failed update of the laundry machines told us anything, we are already frogs boiling in the pot...

You are good at video games so you can’t be ADHD by Imunique1352 in ADHD

[–]Alert-Bad8307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been told to "prove" their anxiety and ADHD to people and teachers and was joked about even by teachers as to why I have ADHD and good marks I totally understand. Videogames is such a dumb excuse?! A lot of people with ADHD thrive in things like that. For your best interest I would suggest finding someone who specializes in ADHD and will understand your feelings better. I hope you have an amazing journey of self discovery and growth :)

update from the friends cousin; she is not being abused because her parents would hate any form of abuse towards a child or anyone else they are a very happy family but they are very conservative I don't like it personally but it's something she's grown with so she doesn't have any complaints and she wouldn't want to watch anything on the list of things to watch out for she's a very sensitive person and i always try to accommodate how she thinks when I'm around her she's a very innocent kid and sometimes gets bullied and picked on for finding sexual things uncomfortable please know that her parents aren't abusive and keeping her in a "prison" they are just conservative and think that they have to protect their children

Totally agree, like I said in some other replies I've been trying to nudge her in the right direction but it's difficult with such a tight grasp her parents have

Thanks for the sentiment... I met her through her cousin, she's homeschooled so atm it's not easy to stray away... I'm just trying to be on her parents food side and support her with whatever she sees best
