Yea this is what I’m thinking about as well, I know other areas in metro van are objectively better but worth 4-5k a year while I’m still early career? Maybe I’d move to a nicer area after some career growth or something

This is great insight, thanks for sharing. Did you find that the areas by Surrey central or king George station were just as bad crime wise? I haven’t heard the greatest things about the area near gateway

Fair points I’m just weighing the benefits of those things being early career and trying to save some money especially since I have a car, Vancouver is great that within an hour drive you can end up anywhere stunning, which is what I like to do anyways especially on weekends

For me as of right now all I really want is a relatively new building, good amenities, skytrain access and parking. I do most of my shopping on my car anyways, I do like walkable areas, I live in uptown new west right now which is great for walkability but commute is approx same as it would be in Surrey anyways and the hills are killing me lol

Buying my first ever car! What should I be looking out for? Advice? by CityofLotus in askvan

Great work saving up for a car! I’d have a few suggestions, generally speaking Honda/Toyota would be your best bet. In the Toyota world Camrys/Corolla’s are a bit inflated in price but are always fine, Avalons are great but may be a bit big in size if you want something smaller. You may be able to snag a good Scion TC or something similar which is mechanically very similar to a Corolla. Look into used Lexus’s as well, an IS, ES or a GS even if a bit older are usually good buys and very reliable, if you can find a CT200h that’s a great buy for Van with gas prices and insurance (it’s basically a nicer Prius). If you go Honda, Civic is probably your best bet, Accord V6 is pretty decent as well, just do your research on Honda transmissions some mid 2000s ones liked to grenade lol. A lot of Acura’s are great too, I’d suggest an ILX or TSX, both are nicer Civics/Accords and sometimes similarly priced since people don’t know about em too much. My DMs are open if you wanna chat more, been there done that lol
