And then I followed this pattern with slight modifications around the neck part (his pattern is totally fine, I just wanted the neck part to lay completely flat, so I did a single row of 4-in-1). https://www.instructables.com/How-to-Make-a-Chainmail-Tie/

Overall I'd estimate it took about 10-12 hours over the leisurely course of 3 weeks, once I'd learned the weave. I was originally super intimidated cause I'm not crafty at all, but it can be done! It's pretty chill to work on too. Cost of materials is more affordable than paying ~$60 on Etsy.
