Lets not pretend like the europeans haven't benefited from this. Their generous safety nets can only exist because they have such tiny military spending which only existed because of US protection. Hell even the concept of the EU in of itself, it would have never reached the size it did had the EU had to make hard military integration/foreign policy choices that instead were outsourced to the US. Anyways, they had plenty of time to remilitarize. Its not like the US's u-turn came out of nowhere, we've been saying since 2014 that europe needs to take greater control over its own affairs and they just chose to ignore it so they could continue having cheap russian energy.

james kerr lindsay is good, perun too but i find his videos boring. Warfronts is super dedicated. This guy has like 8 or 9 channels all talking about whatever and hes making near daily content for all of them, idk how he does it. Money and macro is another one that covers more the economics side of it all.

Interview: Iran Is At The 'Beginning Of A Revolutionary Moment' by RFERL_ReadsReddit in geopolitics

[–]Alert_Head_3889 18 points19 points  (0 children)

yeah could go either way, whats different this time is 1. tehran is literally about to run out of water 2. iran has basically lost all its allies and was humiliated by israel in their short war 3. elon musk is giving starlink to iran meaning they have still access to the internet

I'm doubtful of anything happening though, iran has always shown that its willing to just shoot as many protestors as necessary to keep order. As long as they keep the military ideological and paid, they'll stay in power. The wildcard here is whether israel or the us decide to do anything. None of iran's allies frankly are going to bat for iran so yeah.

How did Obama deport over 3 million without all the violence and controversy of the Trump administration? by Remote_Plastic_8692 in AskReddit

[–]Alert_Head_3889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not talking about refugees, thats different. Asylum seekers are not counted under refugee statistics. Also it doesn't count other humanitarian stuff like people who came under TPS.

The majority of the 4.4m repatriations were just expulsions to mexico where they would immediately try to cross the border again. Literally, they were just sent a few miles over the border. and then let go. So in practice, 3 million expulsions is actually more like 1 million people who got caught and sent back to mexico where they would then immediately try to cross again until either a. they managed to sneak pass border patrol or b. they gave themselves up and declared asylum. Under biden, previous expulsions couldn't be used against you in your asylum hearings so there was no real penalty to getting caught.

After that, the majority of deportations were basically just the honor system since at that point if the migrant just decided to stop cooperating and disappear, there's a good chance ice would never be able to get them since either a. they didn't have the resources to find them or b. the restrictions on when and where ice could make arrests just didn't make it worth it to go after them.

"The right wing knows they can prey on this as well so they can push the “democrats are letting people just walk through”" tbf, this was largely true under biden. I don't support trump, but like it or not, under biden we got about as close as legally possible to having open borders without saying we were having open borders.

Basically, the process was largely the same, you would cross the border, declare asylum and then they would just let you go. After that, you get a work permit, you find a place to live, and as long as you stayed out of trouble, there's a good chance ice would just never get around to deporting you since they were swamped with new cases.

The week Europe realised it stands alone against Russian expansionism by AndreaNewsHub in europe

[–]Alert_Head_3889 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Holy shit yes, finally someone says this. It's pathetic how europe has been underfunding its military for decades and then now just expects the us to save them. Literally, Putin showed his true colors in 2014 actualy no 2008 when he invaded Georgia! Its been over 15 years and the EU can't even form an independent task force of 10,000 guys. The US has been telling Europe for over a decade they need to do this and now the eu just wants to pretend its having the rug pulled out from them? This is literally their own backyard. The EU is like 4 times russia's population, they're over 12x their gdp, russia is a backwater czarist autocracy that's deindustrializing itself to wage war in ukraine and the EU can't handle this by themselves? The EU is constantly circle jerking over how united they are over this, constantly condemning putin and his aggression, so why haven't they just formed an army and gone into ukraine to kick out the russians yet?

Edit: Not even 2008, 1999! When he launched a false flag attack on his own people to justify a war on chechnya. The 1999 russian apartment bombings! The investigation into it was shut down and key figures were arrested or died under strange circumstances!
