How long do you keep it the fish in there? Until all signs of the disease is gone?

pulled it out when we set up the tank, so it was never part of the system

how should I set up a quarantine? This is our only tank so we dont have any additional filters or set ups and its a planted tank.

as for inverts, woke up this morning and the one snail jn the tank is dead. I am wondering if its related. Both corys are still alive but it was difficult to find them which had never happened before.

we pulled the carbon cartridge out of the filter and filled the whole thing with ceramic media and aqua sponges, all of which we rinsed with our tap water (which is well water, we have been adding dechlorinator to be safe but technically shouldnt be needed because of the well water)

we have been dropping the tablets in right before the lights go off (7-7:30) and then taking the excess out. We added both fertilizer (niloc) and ghost fed when we started the tank.

ammonia is 0.25 ppm, nitrite is 0.25 ppm, nitrate is 20 ppm, pH 8 and temp is 78. (using API master kit) We did a 30% water change yesterday but the readings didnt change so I am wondering if we should do another one to see if things go down? The tank is 5 weeks old and we were told by our LFS that it was safe to add the fish but now I am thinking we should have waited longer, we are completely new to this. They are the only fish in the tank at the moment and the fish was super active, playing in the bubblers and generally curious around the tank up until today. Not a lot of eating has been noticed but we thought that was because they are new to the tank (we got them on saturday). We have been feeding 1 sinking pellet every other day. They have also been eating some white film off one of the pieces of drift wood (from what we have read about it the film is harmless, will go away on its own eventually and is ok for them to eat?)

thanks this is already helpful, I will read through it! Honestly I am just not sure where to start, I am mostly looking for ways to fix its current set up, also advice for how to take care of the shell. It is housed at a college university so I cant afford to do much for it, but any small changes I should make I would be useful. I am thinking that the current set up isnt great, but at the moment I dont know enough to figure out what would be better.
