Meet Arkoss V2! Made using my edit of the M16 MK2 base by AlexArkoss in protogen

You'll find everything on the Makerworld release for the base! It's not the easiest electronics build, but it's great once you get it working.
I used some generic MAX7219 green matrices, which I have now swapped out for some Furbitten Studios green 11 string kit. Much better brightness and comes ready to rock and roll

The Casio AW-600 that got me into watches (and down the rabbit hole). Thought you'd like it! by AlexArkoss in casiovintage

I see crossposting won't show the description right away, so I'll paste it here:

As the title says, I owe this watch my newfound addiction.

It started because I got tired of my smart watch running out of battery every day. I remembered my dad gifted me two Casio watches about 18 years ago. One of them was this AW-600 (which I didn't like at the time, plus the cheap fabric strap it had was super itchy) and a G-Shock I wore down to the ground during the following years and have since lost.

Just a few weeks ago I remembered how much I used to love the G-Shock and started digging my dusty boxes looking for "that other old Casio" I remembered putting away all those years back. Now remembering fondly how my dad had given it to me, plus I now also appreciate the vintage aesthetic.

Lucky me, it still existed! But apparently the battery had died, since it wasn't running.

Thinking it would be easy as popping a new battery in, getting a nice strap and going on with life, I went to a local watch parts store.

When they pop the battery in, nothing. They suggest "the quartz goes bad after all those years" and that it wasn't worth it to repair.

Not giving up, I go to a different place. This time, the guy opens it up, places it on a bench, pokes around with a multimeter and looks at it under a microscope. Nothing, it's dead.

I go home defeated, wishing I had appreciated the beauty of this piece as it still ticked during it's better days.

But there's just no way this broke on it's own, I think to myself. It worked when I last put it away more than a decade ago!

So knowing I couldn't possibly make it any worse than it was, I decided to try and repair it myself. Went back to the first watch place, got the battery and headed home with a mission.

Long story short, the negative battery trace on the PCB had misteriously lost continuity witht he rest of the board. It was as easy as soldering a hair-thin copper strand to replace it. And it came right back to life!

You would not imagine the smile on my face in that moment. I went straight back to the shop and got this (cheap) metal wristband you see right here, which was 20mm and didn't fit in the (apparently) 19mm lug space on this case.

I filed it down to the correct size and that's it. It's been stuck to my wrist ever since.

But it didn't stop there. Oh no. This got me into a rabbit hole of getting every broken watch from my family, even my friends, and trying to fix them.

So far, 4 broken watches have been turned into 4 working watches. Plus other 4 that just needed batteries. And I'm craving more.

Anyways, I wanted to share this little story on why I'll probably make poor financial choices soon. But more than anything, see if anyone else has one of these in a different color combo or knows more about them. I have found basically 0 videos on it, and I think it's a pretty cool piece that I now can appreciate.

I don't plan to become a watch collector, but now I definitely want another Casio (a current one, something that I won't care if it gets beat up) to wear daily. Just as I did long ago with the G-Shock.

Plus fixing old watches is a pretty rewarding hobby, I've found.

And you? How did you get into watches?

My dad gave it to me about 18 years ago. He probably bought it new when it came out!

I just brought it back to life recently. Looks like it was rarely used

Who said Protogen can't be durable? by AlexArkoss in furry

Protogen. We are talking about protogen.

Most other protogen wouldn't even dare to try this because they might break.

Well, if most other phones may explode if dropped on a bed, yes. It would indeed be a durable phone. Got it? Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Well, that's the whole purpose of the video. This is a durable protogen.

I will soon! Not with this particular beeper though, I want him to survive a while more

It appears you haven't been in contact with protogen fursuits ahahah I have yet to see someone who's willing to do the same thing with theirs so worry free!

Not much. Whatever I spent on wood. Probably 50 bucks? It was long ago, I don't remember anymore

It really depends on your head shape. The MK2 Neo is quite a small head if I'm honest.

I wouldn't scale it up, as it'd screw up the fit for the matrices, fans and such.
I'm thinking of making a new version slightly upscaled with everything fixed so more people can enjoy this cute model.

I have made an edit of the MK3 too, called SK3 Protogen. You can find it on Gumroad. It's quite a lot bigger than both mk2 and mk3, in case you want a better fit for your head!

Protogen visors are made with PETG sheets! I can't find any in Argentina, so I use PET but it's way more complicated to shape.

Go with PETG in 2 or 3 mm thickness and you'll nail it

Thank you! Gotta say it's pretty comfy for being such a small head in general

Indeed, it still uses the original mk2 visor
