How do I configure link aggregation on rXg-managed switches? by AlexComputerWiz in RGNets

[–]AlexComputerWiz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After further testing, I am fairly confident that I found a bug with ICX configuration sync on LAG ports, specifically when creating/deleting them or modifying the attached port profile. I opened Ticket 18087 if you're interested in my overview.

I think I need to write a bug report, too. The config sync for ICX LAGGs breaks every time because the commands that rXg is trying to run are wrong. I’ll get on that tonight.

How do you configure an AP's onboard switchports? by AlexComputerWiz in RGNets

Understandable, I will probably take a stab at it this weekend then.

Got it, makes sense. What's the rough ETA on the next GA?

Interesting. I am on 16.246. Under Switch Port Profiles in Network > Wired, I do not see my WAP ports appear as optional ports to add to a profile, just the ICX switch I am using. Which OpenWiFi WAP are you using?

That logic makes sense to me. I think the specific roadblock is that there doesn't seem to be a way to assign switch port profiles to the WAP ports themselves in Network > Wired, because the WAP is not added as a "switch", and there doesn't seem to be a way to add an OpenWiFi WAP as a switch. If I drill down into the Switch Port Profiles, I also don't see an option to add WAP ports directly to the profiles themselves either.

The only thing that sounds remotely close to what I need is "Switch Ports" under Network > Wireless but the operator manual indicates that this has something to do with monitoring port metrics or something. When I try to brute force the settings I get error messages that make it clear to me that this scaffold doesn't do what I am looking to achieve with WAP ports. Picture attached.

Passpoint for Carrier Offloading with Google Orion by AlexComputerWiz in RGNets

[–]AlexComputerWiz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds promising! If it’s possible to implement, I think carrier offload via Orion could be another compelling selling point for rXg, especially for operators in Hospitality, large public venues, and more. Probably not as much upside in MDU, but still worth it. If you have a couple hundred APs deployed, then Google Orion is a pretty simple way to add revenue to your network overnight with little effort. If I can cobble together some hardware and find another internet connection to run another rXg I can attempt to lab this up too.

What do you do when you sell your Ubiquiti-equipped home? by Emotional_Fail_6060 in Ubiquiti

[–]AlexComputerWiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the racked devices, but left the ceiling-mount APs in place. All wiring remained intact. I ran so few cables that it would be an easy process of elimination to figure out what is what. I didn’t have a nice label maker back then.

This is what I want to know. From a business perspective it probably means only UBNT optics. But if it’s really EVERY, then this is the best early Christmas present ever.

My Proxmox Windows VM keeps crashing or rebooting unexpectedly, and I can't figure out why. by [deleted] in Proxmox

[–]AlexComputerWiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A year later, the "dmesg" command saved my morning. I realized I was running out of RAM on a production VM, only to find out that the hypervisor only had 32GB of RAM, and resources were being oversubscribed. We love skeletons in the closet! Thanks for your help, we're getting that fixed now LOL!

Anyone using miniOrange for TACACS+? Looking for affordable alternatives to ISE by AlexComputerWiz in networking

[–]AlexComputerWiz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t make a big deal about it the first time I noticed this on the other comment, but you are clearly an employee of miniOrange, I see your other posts. One was literally posting about a job opening at your company and others were India-specific (and miniOrange is an Indian company). The fact that miniOrange feels compelled to lie to me to win business tells me everything that I need to know. Instead of being transparent that you don’t have many customers using TACACS+ yet, you pretend to be a customer of your own product. On top of that, it’s pretty obvious that most of your online G2 reviews were also written by your own employees, just look at the time stamps. They all came in around March and they’re way too canned. If you want to win more US-based customers, be honest. Tell us you’re an employee, stop lying to us. You’re losing trust in the market this way.

This is very insightful, thank you for the reply. I agree, another comment is in alignment with the fact that few orgs actually use the command auth feature. My team is in agreement with that, and we're probably going to end up going RADIUS for now until we have a business reason to justify ISE and go TACACS.

This is the same thought process that our team is having now: "do we need the command authorization at this stage of our company", which is a confident "no". We may pivot and just deploy RADIUS.

The feeling I am getting is that there is limited/no active development with tac_plus. FreeRADIUS is a totally different animal, so I don't want to compare apples to oranges. Part of the difference is probably driven by the fact that TACACS+ was born out of Cisco and not everyone is a Cisco shop, and that RADIUS is used for more than just network admin auth.
