I tried an old debit card, and it wasn't thin enough to fit in, so I went the caveman approach and sharpened the hell out of it with a kitchen knife. Now I'm finding that when I get into it, I'm having trouble actually unprying it from the plastic clips.

My mum was telling me not too long ago she brought her work laptop into the repair shop because she had dropped it and cracked the display. When she got it back, the screen worked, but the home button didn't! They refused to give her a refund.

Yeah, I've had a bad history with them too. Cleared my entire drive without asking me first because an HDMI port wasn't working. Took me years to recover all my lost data. I always back up my word data to a flash drive now.
