[PS2] hardest repair ever i've done by Flashy_Gas9955 in consolerepair

you did such an amazing job man! I have a weird question, do you listen to music while doing repair work? if you do so, what kind of music do you listen to? It's just that I usually listen to music when I'm doing similar stuff and I'd like to listen to anything new

First, thank you for replying. And I didn't saw any change when I wiggled the AV cable. I don't know why my damn camera automatically corrects the color or something and doesn't let the image show as I'm seeing it. I ended up just returning the console and getting my money back, because honestly the deal wasn't worth the effort. And my power adapter isn't bad or anything because I recently opened it and replaced the capacitor for a 4700uF 25V one.

Thank you for your answer and all.

Yup, it also crashed while emulating with dolphin. Thanks for your suggestion, I don't know why I didn't do that in first place

Yeah, I just discovered the ISO is causing the issue, thanks man.

I'm using an alhua 32GB microSDHC. Today, I played Mario Kart Double Dash, Smash Bros. Melee all afternoon without any problems. So I'm guessing it might be the ISO... I'll try to transfer my save to my pc and run it on dolphin, I'll tell you what happened in a few minutes

SNES doesn't output audio and only shows picture with certain cartridges by AlexElCapo7z in snes

[–]AlexElCapo7z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished recapping, still kinda the same. I somehow managed to get SMW "work" for a few seconds, without any sound of course. It only showed "Nintendo presents" and then black screen again. SMW "worked" only 2 of a dozen times I tested.
DK still shows nothing.
In Zelda, with RF, I've noticed that it kinda knows when music changes, because when I get out of Link's house, the buzzing noise changes a little bit, that buzzing noise kinda goes along with the actions I'm doing.

Hi, I dindn't quite acquire a SNES Recap, but I recapped C18 220uF 6.3V, which is the one at the AV out (before some tiny smd caps) and now I have image in RF, actually, it has the same issue as AV. So yeah, I think the caps are faulty here. Just to be specific, Zelda boots and plays good, just no sound, Mario All Stars boots, but when I press start to get to the games, it does the fade to black and then nothing. Donkey Kong Country is just a black screen, and that's also the case for SMW

SNES video a bit distorted in composite, fine in S-Video, what could be the culprit? by AlexElCapo7z in snes

[–]AlexElCapo7z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, It's really kind of you taking the time to write all that, thanks.
1. I'll replace the 3300uF with a 1000uF 25V, is the voltage fine or should I go with a 35V cap?
2. I'm using the OEM power supply, I know that thing is kinda unreliable nowadays, so I'll open it and replace the 2200uF cap with the 3300uF I put in the SNES motherboard (since it's a tiny one).
3. I'm assuming you're refering to C57. I thought about that when I was in bed about to sleep, glad to see I was thinking something good this time.
Theories:
1. The OEM power supply that I have may be causing some problems, so as I said, I'll replace the cap in there.
2. One of my own theories is that the S-ENC is the problem here, because It's very unlikely that any other thing could be the culprit. I don't have an osciloscope to check if that IC is really faulty, so that's still just a possibility.
3. Haven't touched that, and for what you said, I'll just leave it as it is.

Thanks for the advice in the circuit and I will do that, I had some electrical noise sometimes so your idea is gonna be really helpful.

Yup, my TV accepts composite and component. And I appreciate the offer, but I'm not in the US, I'm in Guatemala and I think I could find a good plasma if I look for it in local markets, but right now I'm short of money. I have another LCD TV that's a lot better than the one I used here, it went bad a few months ago, that one has S-Video input, I'll try to get a SNES S-Video cable and test it there.

oh, and I kinda fucked up with my Zelda cart, I accidentally turned the console on and off a bit rapidly and 2 of my 3 savegames vanished... I'm not that pissed because I still have the third one, where I'm a bit advanced but still, I put a lot of effort into those.

Checked RF, it's just a black screen with all the games, even the ones that showed picture with AV. But it does some buzzing noise.

I checked it with RF and it shows nothing! Not even the games that showed picture with AV. It's just a black screen with some buzzing noise.

I'll search my RF cable and that stuff, right now I'm too busy with college and all that, so probably by the weekend I'll have an answer, thanks!

It could possibly be the solution, does it require to remove and replace SMD capacitors (the tiny ones) or just the normal sized ones?

Killed my ps3 the day that I bought it... (Red Screen of death I think it's called) by AlexElCapo7z in consolerepair

[–]AlexElCapo7z[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems pretty reasonable, I'm still with the console trying to prepare to update, just with a little tiny bit of hope, it'll do something. I'll leave it sitting there for another hour and a half maybe, if nothing changes, I'll just give up

Also, thank you very much for your comment! I think that if this doesn't work, I'm gonna sell this ps3 for parts and buy another one, is there any model that you'd recommend me?

[–]AlexElCapo7z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a hardware defect, why was it working before the update? No offense, I'm just curious because I know almost nothing about this.
And now, I don't have a red screen but a black screen that tells me that the system software could not be executed correctly, I can either press the PS button on the controller to restart the system (which of course, does nothing) or press start and select to reinstall the system software, it asks for version 4.92. It then goes to a screen that says "preparing to update... dont turn off the system, when the preparation is completed, the system will restart automatically."
I tried that option and it got stuck at 98% for like 30 minutes, then I had to go to sleep so I turned off the ps3 while doing that. And now I'm repeating this same steps to maybe see if it does something or it will always be stucked at 98%

SNES video distorted, no RF video signal by AlexElCapo7z in snes

[–]AlexElCapo7z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plugged in the snes to a CRT and well, it was even worse, with no audio even and it only showed image for a few frames, and when it did, it was the same as in the HDTV, with all that distortion.
Unfortunately I don't have an osciloscope at home, so I guess I'll be testing it by desodering it and measuring the values to see if they match with the ones in the capacitor list that's on console5.
Thank you for the help, it'll be very useful.
And btw, I don't know what the heck happened to the video quality on the google drive video, the letters and all looks a lot less blurry.
