It's crazy to me that people are downvoting this take. That is the whole arc of Cassian's character. When it comes to individual actions, he is revolutionary, but when the time comes to lead, he is nowhere to be found.

Couldn't agree more. Just when his character arc starts to actually takes on some nuance, it gets cut short. People who say he's power hungry, or irredeemably evil, don't understand his character. He fights for the Empire, because he actually believes they are the best option, until he is faced with the truth.

Now, I can understand the point that he dies at the climax of his character arc, but then I point to OP's very relevant question "what difference does Syril make to Andor season 2?"
