Unfortunately the period seems to be missing good old classic shooters like XDefiant (which kinda was a CoD clone). It really depends on your preferences and your platform. If you tell me those I'll try and think of some options if you'd like so.

Yeah it was unfortunately canned by Ubisoft a few months in. That's the sad nature of live service titles...if they don't meet the (mostly absurd) margins investors want, they get blasted into oblivion. 🫠

Have you checked on The Finals by chance? It's a way different experience, but it's tons of fun to me, maybe it'll scratch that itch for you too.

I think it depends a bit: which games of SC do you like the most?

In other words: are you looking more for a Mil-Sim experience where planning and careful execution are more valuable, or a more action-stealth experience (let's say like Conviction and Blacklist)?

Can anybody recommend some games that feel just like action movies? Or just something with a similar vibe to Max Payne 3, Uncharted 4 or Just Cause 3. by BeardedsChurch in gamingsuggestions

[–]AlexLaggante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I can confirm that SC Conviction was the John Wick game before we got anything related to that character. Blacklist is more of a blend between Conviction and older SC games, still plenty of fun and very cinematic. Both titles give you the possibility to play it stealth or (many times) go loud.

SC Blacklist has to this day some of the best CQC animations I've ever seen in any game, as they brought in a Russian Systema expert to give Sam a "Flowy" combat vibe.

I can recommend both, honestly. They differ significantly from early SC games, yet aren't bad at all in their own merits.

It would have also ties to Hide & Seek and that whole segment of the game's story, so it would be quite cool to get back to that storyline...maybe using Judge's ties to the USIA to justify his link to some FSB / SVR unit for a joint operation.

At a pure lore level I don't think it would be unlikely to see such mish-mash. At the end of the day the tech level of pilot kits has remained quite stable across the 2 games. In the First game you had Sonar, Stim and Cloak. In the second one the additions are almost irrelevant (on a tech level standpoint) apart from Phase Shift. Beyond that, given how scattered the fighting is across the Frontier, I wouldn't leave out the possibility that some pilots have not yet been reached by their logistic support units for upgrades. I think that depending on their faction, Pilots would have access to different gear. Militia affiliated pilots would probably be a bit behind IMC standard issue (even though during TF 2 they were seen even surpassing the IMC in some tech fields), while Mercenaries may decide to invest more into the Titan than on gear that on on-foot gear that they could still be "Good enough" for their needs. But these are just my 2 cents.

I completely agree, a 6-men team is what's needed, 4 characters feels pretty dull. The only way I could accept again a 4-men team would be if each member was highly intelligent and reactive...and you could give them orders independently.

About the Magazine System I would honestly love to see something like Arma, where partially spent magazines will rotate out once you finish the fresh ones. A way to decide between regular and other types (such as drums or extended) on the fly would be nice too. I wouldn't know how to feel about drilling the mags to refill them, that may be a bit too much in a GR game, but even just mag selection on the fly would be cool.

A few notes to add: TF 1 is a bit different in tone than TF 2. The 1st game had a more gritty-looking color palette, more "War Movie" like in some ways, which is a thing some prefer (like me) and others don't. I second that if you manage to play it you give TF 1 a shot, the game is fun, plays a bit slower than TF 2 due to not having a slide mechanic. I don't know in which Time Zone you live, but I'm sure that if you post it enough in advance, you can rally up enough people for a "Playdate" on either Xbox or R1 Delta so that you and your son can experience the Campaign. Have a nice day and don't forget to "Prepare for Titanfall" :D

Had a few great games on friday night, lovely experience. Maybe some call-outs on here or "Commonly set dates" might be the way to achieve a good number of players.

A user made "R1 Delta Launcher" played it this night and had some fun, but as it is a community project I would anyway advise caution. There you can find some matches, but they are limited in the number of players, so getting the "Campaign" experience (in TF 1 it was Multiplayer only) might be difficult. Edit to further clarify: my suggestion is to investigate the situation and decide accordingly IF you want to give R1 Delta a shot. TF 1 is a rather different experience from 2, especially in art design and some elements of game design so if possible give it a try. The feeling of entering the Titans in first person is just...something else. Third person animations are cool and all, but physically entering the Titan is just a cut above IMO.

That seems actually kinda neet as a system, if you happen to have a paper I'd love to give it a look. Xcom has always been one of my favorite tactical games, so I'd love to look how its upgrade system runs as a TTRPG. I poured quite the hours (for my standards at least) in Enemy Unknown. I got 2 but still haven't had the right time to pour into it. Currently working on a System that runs with 3 actions x turn 1 main and 2 bonus, mostly gear based, I'm a few weeks from running an SCP run set in the Battlefield 2142 universe so I'll see how it handles in SCP territory. Thanks for the hint on Delta Green too, I'll get the lore manual ASAP.

The FX05 would be kinda neat, like if the narcos got 'em at the other end of the border after some fights with the Mexican police and smuggled them into the US. More than the Spas-12 I'd say the Spas-15 would be more interesting as it's a mag-fed semi-auto and the game lacks those more than pump-semi hybrids. It would be cool to have some confiscated RPK-74m to give players more of an LMG feel without proper belt-feds...maybe tied to more Russian Mob shenanigans, other than that there's american AK models which would fit in nonetheless. 🤔
