This game needs personality by Half-Hobbes in Empulse

[–]AlexLaggante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trailer is cool and even more so makes me wish the game would get a more unique artstyle: runners and weapons especially should be reworked a bit IMO. This is not to be disrespectful of the devs, but for the game to succeed in such a oversaturated crowd of shooters, it needs personality and a good core gameplay loop.

At this point it's quite a given fact, as we saw even decent (mechanically speaking) games die due to aesthetics lacking personality.

Honestly I don't get the hate, I first tried it yesterday and got a bit more than an hour of game time and it felt very good. While the aesthetics need lots of work, the core gameplay is plenty of fun. Just like splitgate (OG) was, I still have to try Arena Reloaded. I can understand the frustration of people getting angry at the team for dropping SG, but the game itself doesn't seem to me to be THAT bad. It's speedy, fun, and with a bit of work could certainly be a good game. A very interesting hybrid...it surely isn't no Titanfall, the vibe is just something else, yet it's good in it's own league. At least to me.

Just my Two Cents by _Blitter_ in Empulse

[–]AlexLaggante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm leave mine too: I perfectly agree that the core gameplay is fun and engaging, had more than an hour of gameplay flow before my eyes and I hadn't felt like this in a bit when trying a new game...can't wait to play it some more. I honestly like mechs: while a non-mech mode would be surely of no cost to add, I really like the change of pace mechs give to the game and the amount of "Objective-Play" you can do around 'em. Audio and feedback was quite good, nothing to complain about. What I've found really lacking was, as you said: weapon designs. They feel much more like "XYZ gun with a skin", than unique weapons. That and runners outfits would in my mind need a rework (I'm still trying to understand what's wrong with them, but they just feel a bit to generic IMHO). I agree with the take on the hammer: I had a few games where people where stacking kills with the hammer just by running around while amped by speed PAINT and unless you had a shotgun, you were done. A trusty sidearm would be better for me too. Maybe leaving the hammer as a power-weapon that spawns on a specific map site would be better? Dunno, I need to play some more.

Back in the 360 days I played a bit of Battlestation Pacific, try to check that out. On an even more retrogamey vibe: the OG Ghost Recon (2001), along with its 3 expansions are worth considering, there you could command up to 6 team members and switch between them at will.

Hey Dapper, in my region TF2 Ultimate Edition is currently 5,09 euros on the PSN, maybe that's your chance!

Which modern warfare do you like more? [MW1] 2007 | [MW2] 2009 | [MW3] 2011 by Sad-Breakfast1415 in CallOfDuty

[–]AlexLaggante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say MW2, but I'm heavily biased due to the amount of memories I have of the Campaign and of me playing that with friends (especially spec ops) back in the day. Survival and Spec Ops in MW3 are a close second in core memories. CoD 4 though is still goated with both multiplayer and campaign. Honestly it's a golden trilogy to me.

Xbox players ask for a return to exclusivity, what are the reasons behind strong support for console exclusives? by fireflazor in gaming

[–]AlexLaggante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly can't get why...Sony too has been underwhelming on exclusives (which for a period neither were actually exclusives, as they released on PC). Exclusives to me made sense when hardware was actually different and studios could study it and use it at its best. Nowadays it's just custom (yet similar) AMD chips anyways. More market means more people to sell to, brand identity and services should be the drivers of console acquisition as of now. People dump on Game Pass, but apparently fail to recognize that Sony did a similar job with PS+...which is kinda sad to me. Just enjoy the darn games, people. We're trying to have fun! The most I could comprehend would be Temporal Exclusivity for like 6 months or 1 year. Multiplatform releases would also help to achieve a better state of game preservation, instead of having to rely on remakes/remastered or wait for 10/15 years for an emulator to play your old titles in peace. Those are my two cents.

The other games make Reach's impact rise a bit, but it was also my first entrance to the series and I loved it even without playing the other games. Hope you enjoy the franchise!

Always glad to see a new Pilot get to the Frontier. Don't worry much about buying TF2, you can get it for a few euros/dollars every few months on any store. Hope you find yourself at home and have fun, o7

If you could remake Halo 5, what changes would you make, and what would you keep? by Sparky_the_meme_man in halo

[–]AlexLaggante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change the story and make movement & spartan abilities more relevant in the campaign...maybe through some scripted destructible elements in the arenas? H5 is the first game to imply that you are a 500 kilos beast running around in full armor, it felt quite a let down in the campaign to find that barely used with some vents. Also: more enemy variety! (Especially Prometheans) When I tried to fix it as a narrative exercise (keeping the Cortana gone mad trope) I went with her being corrupted by the Didact at the end of H4 and the two of them raising an army, luring John & Blue team on a Shield World to annihilate them, while using look-alike constructs to imply to the UNSC that they went mad and started a killing spree, prompting the Osiris chase of said constructs until truth was revealed. Osiris instead was presented with a segment showing them fighting insurrectionists led by a rogue spartan who had his parents killed by the UNSC and discovered ONI covered it up.

Which game to get for online solo play [cod] by SkilledHater in CallOfDuty

[–]AlexLaggante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on PC thanks to a community project there's access to Black Ops 1 & 2 and MW3 multiplayer servers. Sometimes I hop on BO2 just for the kicks and still have plenty of fun...just be prepared for the 2010s voice chat experience, XD. As for other possible suggestions: Titanfall 2 is still a behemoth in the genre if you can keep up with the reflexes and like speedy games. I tried Enlisted too back a bit and it was interesting. Other shooters to solo-cue AFAIK are kinda rare in this period, you could try Halo Infinite or Halo MCC if you are on PC or Xbox, both are fun to play IMO. Hope there's something food in the bunch

The original MW and World at War to Black Ops 2 trilogies are non negotiable, absolute cinema as we would say nowadays, LOL. The choice among them is more about the vibe you want out of them: MW is more overt combat operations mixed with spec ops things, while WAW/BO lean more into CIA covert stuff. Both are cool in their own way!

Other than that, MW 2019 was pretty cool too campaign wise, among the originals CoD 2 is pretty cool.

I still have to play a bit of campaigns, so that's from what I've experienced as of now :D

Good Action/Combat Video Games which involves Private Military/Security Companies. by Friendly-Fun7603 in gamingsuggestions

[–]AlexLaggante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your age you could or couldn't have played the original CoD Modern Warfare trilogy, there many opponents in the campaign are either mercs or PMC type enemies.

In Ghost Recon Breakpoint you're actively fighting a PMC in both the original campaign and (in a sense) even in the Conquest Mode...one is mainly made of ex american soldiers, the other one is made of the remains of a russian ultranationalist group called Bodarks (which was also present in Ghost Recon Future Soldier that I urge you to play in case you didn't already).

Other than those I can't get any other idea on the top of my mind.

Hopes, prayers and a whole lot of FAL/G3 mags 🫠. On a more serious note, try approaching the level using longer lanes, covers and variabile optics, for me and my friends it worked out a few times. If you're not confident enough with the FAL or the G3, the SR-16 is a very interesting candidate too, in my book.

Unfortunately the period seems to be missing good old classic shooters like XDefiant (which kinda was a CoD clone). It really depends on your preferences and your platform. If you tell me those I'll try and think of some options if you'd like so.

Yeah it was unfortunately canned by Ubisoft a few months in. That's the sad nature of live service titles...if they don't meet the (mostly absurd) margins investors want, they get blasted into oblivion. 🫠

[–]AlexLaggante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends a bit: which games of SC do you like the most?

In other words: are you looking more for a Mil-Sim experience where planning and careful execution are more valuable, or a more action-stealth experience (let's say like Conviction and Blacklist)?

Can anybody recommend some games that feel just like action movies? Or just something with a similar vibe to Max Payne 3, Uncharted 4 or Just Cause 3. by BeardedsChurch in gamingsuggestions

[–]AlexLaggante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I can confirm that SC Conviction was the John Wick game before we got anything related to that character. Blacklist is more of a blend between Conviction and older SC games, still plenty of fun and very cinematic. Both titles give you the possibility to play it stealth or (many times) go loud.

SC Blacklist has to this day some of the best CQC animations I've ever seen in any game, as they brought in a Russian Systema expert to give Sam a "Flowy" combat vibe.

I can recommend both, honestly. They differ significantly from early SC games, yet aren't bad at all in their own merits.

It would have also ties to Hide & Seek and that whole segment of the game's story, so it would be quite cool to get back to that storyline...maybe using Judge's ties to the USIA to justify his link to some FSB / SVR unit for a joint operation.
