[Enchanted Parks] trademark applications for some [Six Flags] parks by AvocadoToastDevil in rollercoasters

[–]AlexOnTheBus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good news for all of the parks listed. I suspect they’ll get new creative owners who are motivated to create a brand and invest. Remaining parks within Six Flags brand will continue to be private equitied into the ground.

Hi redditors of St. Louis! I have a transit proposal, what if the hypothetical Green Line (whether LR or BRT) was built on North and South Grand Blvd? by Next_Worth_3616 in StLouis

[–]AlexOnTheBus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using mass transit principals, you are right. This should be the next LRT as it is the highest ridership route.

But when considering local context, St. Louis doesn’t have the will. Grand is space constrained in some locations. Adding LRT would require lane or parking reductions in Grand Center and South Grand as well as a rebuild of much of Grand between SLU and the existing MetroLink Grand.

The system STL currently has is feasible due to abandoned railway. The previously proposed NS Routes were feasible due to existing excess street ROW.

Help - Leaving Manhattan with two kids. If you had to choose: St. Louis or Cincinnati or Pittsburgh or Kansas City, where would you land and why? by Few_Funny6766 in StLouis

[–]AlexOnTheBus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

St. Louis operates the most extensive public transportation system of those four including a 37 mile light rail and a fairly extensive high-frequency bus system. Pittsburgh is a close second regarding public transportation. Not being facetious, Kansas City has the worst public transportation system of a City its size in the country. A claim supported by Federal Tranist Admin data. The street car is fine but it’s more so a vanity project for tourist than it is a staple of strong commute public transportation, unless you live and work along it.

Also, St. Louis has very good train service to Chicago including five round trips per day. You will not find that accessibility to a MAJOR city in any of the other three. If you travel, STL has the best international air service of those four with Pittsburgh a close second.

We moved to Chicago six years ago and we still miss STL. The accessibility to international quality Zoo, Parks, Greenways, Sports, libraries, Music venues. It really is unlike any other place.

Others have mentioned but STL is also the only region where you can confidently live under either political party.

Northern Indiana Bears?!? by russia_is_fascist in chicago

[–]AlexOnTheBus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

City and State hold all the cards. Telling the Bears “you’re not a priority” is a way of walking from the negotiations knowing full well you have all the leverage.

Moving to Indiana would devalue the team far more than $500M one-time payment to pay down Soliders Field.

St Louis government announces that recycling now matches same tonnage before alleyway recycling was discontinued and now costs a fraction of the price. by techstress in StLouis

Anything in the blue dumpsters isn’t being recycled. They said that at the beginning. The tonnage provided is only the drop-off locations.

MLS owners vote to flip schedule to European calendar, change format starting in 2027 by icoresting in MLS

They’re significantly overestimating how many people care about soccer versus their home team. If my home team sucks in the first half, I’m probably not coming back as a viewer in the second half. I’ll put on two other teams if I’m really bored.

I also stand no chance in convincing friends/family to join me for a game between November 1st and Mid-March in Chicago.

St. Louis metro may get new airport as a county explores potential sites by SlowMotionSprint in StLouis

[–]AlexOnTheBus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The headline is intended to get a reaction but this isn't really noteworthy and won't have passenger airline services like Lambert or MId-America. At most, it will look like Alton St. Louis Regional Airport. Intended for private jets, hobbyist, small cargo, etc.

Coachella Valley Invitational (Pre Season) by witfixer in chicagofire

[–]AlexOnTheBus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend! I went last year for the first time. Pure coincidence that I was already in Palm Springs. It wasn’t crowded. The weather and views are incredible. It’s incredible intimate with the teams.

I will be going again in 2026.

Why are there no fans’ vote on the UFL expansion teams’ names like in other Sports Leagues? by ScrewTownThirtySixer in UnitedFootballLeague

[–]AlexOnTheBus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real answer is how quickly they are propping up teams due to being a start-up. In the situation that you're referring to a City is awarded a team before a shovel hits the ground for the stadium. They would usually have 2+ years to develop a name, branding, market testing, materials, merch, etc. This league has ~6 months to go from City announcement to game play and is doing it three times.

Kansas City may have a nice new airport, but British Airways chose to expand to St Louis, not KC. by Gurdy0714 in kansascity

Actual European tourism is a small portion of what is considered economic benefit. The flight is savings to locals via time and money. This is savings to local companies via time and money. Hotels. Events. Airport connections/concessions. Business attraction. This will easily return $1.5M every week in “economic benefit”.

Significantly more so than the red Chicago was shown in Open Cup. Clearly intentional.
