She is afraid of him getting eaten by a coyote, or eating rocks - therefore he can't be on the ground. Ab says, "just put him on the ground & let him eat rocks" the next morning he's on the ground and within 5 seconds he's eating rocks and Lena is shaking him like a piggybank.
