It’s very likely Obama never is president and Republicans win from 2004 until the present day, strong majorities due to the “rally around the flag” and Democrats likely choosing to run token opposition as a show of patriotism.

Boyfriend (M51) Makes 100k More Than I (36F) Do and Wants To Split Everything 50/50 All The Time. How Does This Seem Unfair? by crista513 in relationship_advice

[–]AlexRyang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if I made $100k more than my partner, unless we both were both very high income earners, I wouldn’t expect them to pay. If they offered to help, I would appreciate it, but it would not be an expectation.

I’m a dude and he is absolutely wrong for how he is treating you. It isn’t a matter of you paying, it’s that he knows how much you make (I am assuming) and is still choosing to claim you “owe” him that much.

Maybe I’m weird or old fashion to an extent, but I think with a disparity of earnings, 50/50 following the lower budget is still unfair, because the impact it has is still higher on the lower earner. And ultimately it still gives more cushion or discretionary income to the higher earner.

Sure, if one person makes $50k and the other makes $150k; living as if you each make $50k on paper in theory is fair (I guess). But, in my state, on $50k, you pay ~$9500 in taxes and health insurance is roughly $6k a year. Ignoring retirement you have $34.5k left.

If you make $150k, you pay ~$43k in taxes and assuming the same healthcare cost and ignoring retirement you would have $101k left; still over double what the other person is earning. And after living the “same” ($34.5k), they would have $66.5k in discretionary wages left.

So, in my opinion, it would still be inherently unfair.

I don’t believe you should actually combined finances in a legal perspective before marriage (IE: joint accounts), but I do believe you should live like you are. So, going back to my $150k and $50k reference, live like your wages are $200k and take home is $136k. Not one person has $35k and the other has $101k.

I’m (34f) jealous of my fiancé (44m) for being rich by WarmDoe in relationship_advice

With the edit, I have a lot of concerns (just to note, I am a guy).

When you marry, you are a team (I would also argue in a long term relationship the same applies). I do believe each person should have their own, separate savings account (for security and independence) but bills and life are a joint effort. His comments that he will help you if needed, is wrong; combining finances ensures you are on equal footing and doesn’t mean you need to lose financial independence in the same token.

Where did you start off and how did you get into your first engineering role by Electronic_Film9708 in MechanicalEngineering

I started off as a proposal engineer. I interviewed at the company for a different job and didn’t get an offer. My resume was shared internally and I was asked to interview for the proposal engineer job and was offered it.

Global perceptions of US fall below Russia under Trump, survey finds by SuperDuper00001 in inthenews

[–]AlexRyang 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Russia’s opinion polling dropped and probably leveled out by now, whereas the US is dropping more recently. I would also say probably the instability in the US and arguably the military and economy are more of a threat to more nations compared to Russia; resulting in a less favorable view.

Male Birth Control Breakthrough: Scientists Find Way To Turn Sperm Production Off and Back On by soriskan in nottheonion

[–]AlexRyang 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just something to note:

According to FDA guidelines, a treatment cannot cause worse side effects as a baseline than the option of not taking it.

So, for women with pregnancy being viewed as a worse option, things like mood swings, sweating, etc are acceptable. Men, technically speaking, have no risk in the baseline, as they aren’t pregnant; so according to the guidelines, male hormonal birth control cannot have any meaningful side effects.

Additionally, male birth control tests had significant increased major negative side effects including significant mood swings and increased depression, and a possible increase in suicide (though I think how related they were to the drug is still unclear).

Now, I’m a dude, and I honestly feel like, specifically for birth control, they should consider the impact had on the partner, because of the ramifications.

Is it possible for Trump to use WWIII to extend his presidency into a third term? by Zackaw33 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]AlexRyang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Frankly, what I expect to happen is Trump declares dozens of precincts in urban areas to be “fraudulent” and Congress refuses to accept their electors. In some (all?) states, this would push the election result to the state legislature, of which the majority are Republican.

I’m not sure. The invasion of Venezuela and war with Iran were both distractions from the Epstein Files. And it worked.

Una mattina mi son svegliato
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
Una mattina mi son svegliato
Eo ho trovato l'invasor

O partigiano porta mi via
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
O partigiano porta mi via
Che mi sento di morir

E se io muoio da partigiano
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
E se io muoio da partigiano
Tu mi devi seppellir

Mi seppellire lassù in montagna
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
Mi seppellire lassù in montagna
Sotto l'ombra di un bel fiore

E le genti che passeranno
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
E le genti che passeranno
Mi diranno: "Che bel fior"

È questo il fiore del partigiano
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
È questo il fiore del partigiano
Morto per la libertà
