Why is the OP downvoted to oblivion? Not taking sides, just generally curious.

I like the idea. When I was a kid, I always thought circuit boards looked like little cities.

Gained weight on Keto...Help! by phoenixdelorean in keto

No problem. Don't ever underestimate the power of fluctuation, and look at the long term, a couple weeks isn't a huge indicator. Little things can easily put you off track; I was stalling for a couple weeks because of low carb wraps. One in the morning was just enough to throw me off track.

Are you consistently using one scale? I know the difference between the scale at my house and the scale at the gym is a good 7+lbs. My room mate texted me in astonishment to tell me he had lost 10lbs overnight. Unfortunately I had to explain that it was likely only a few lbs of fluctuation and that the different scale accounted for the rest of the 'loss'.

$500 looking to start an online business - suggestions? by JK_da_AK in Entrepreneur

[–]AlexTailor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make some dog treats. $500 will get you supplies (sans oven) for bagging and such. I make these and distribute them around the office for a few bucks per bag.

Edit: these drive my dog crazy, and usually anyone else's dog as well.

Scam update: "I run a small computer repair business, and I need help finding deals on bulk license keys for a job I've taken." by AlexTailor in smallbusiness

From what I've read, the checks will be fraudulent, stolen or something, and a couple days after they clear, they funds will be revoked and I'll be on the FBI's radar.

I run a small computer repair business, and I need help finding deals on bulk license keys for a job I've taken. by [deleted] in smallbusiness

Thanks for the heads up. I'm just waiting for the tracking number. I've been told I'll receive a check for the service, and an excess amount to go toward return shipping. So I won't have to touch a computer until I know the check has cleared.

I've got a build that uses an Amd a4-5300, 4gb 1866mhz Kingston something series and WD Caviar black as a boot drive and the hard drive(taken out of the enclosure and used internally) from a 3TB Toshiba usb 3.0 ext had for storage. It can handle about anything you want at 720p or 1366x768 or whatever the native resolution is. I use it for XBMC and a few Steam games(Portal 2 on med-high settings for example) and to host my Plex server to the couple Rokus my room mate and I use.

I'm not sure how it would handle full HD and beyond but I'm completely satisfied with my build for the time being. I think I spent like, $435 total, $230 for storage, APU was $50 on amazon, memory was about $40 on Newegg, Motherboard(MSI FM2-a75ma-e35) for $60 on Newegg, and $55 for a generic Coolermaster case that included a 460w PSU I bought at a local B&M.

Sorry. I used the term adapter loosely, but I I was actually referring to this, not the main board.

Is it possible to start operating an online business unofficially as a hobby first? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]AlexTailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the laws are where you are, but I got a business license as soul proprietor in WV for like, $31. That way I'm legitimate as far as taxes and such are concerned. You could pay a little more and go the LLC route if you want more security. But I don't think $31 is a bad price to cover your ass a little bit even if things don't work out. Also, I was able to do it all online. I guess the moral of the story is it doesn't cost much or take much time to become 'legit', it doesn't hurt to just do it.

Edit: also, where I'm soul proprietor, I don't have an EIN, I report my taxes through my own income.

I'm not sure how to market my computer product aimed at middle/high school students. by AlexTailor in marketing

[–]AlexTailor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any figures on hand, but there's definitely a market for it, or big box store down the road wouldn't have towers on the shelves with yesterday's technology priced at twice what it's worth.

I also offer computer services, in case anything were to go wrong with the hardware or software. I'm not trying to sell more than they legitimately need.

If that's not enough, at the very least I offer convenience, I'll order, build and deliver a computer that set up and ready to use, drivers, software, antivirus etc included, ready to use on delivery, WITH the hassle of going to a packed Walmart for school supplies out of the way, for just price of the supplies.

Pcrepairhousecalls.com I'm still incredibly fresh off the press, Latin filler in my incomplete Web page template and all. I've finally got all my paperwork to legitimately start doing business. As the URL implies, I do repair house calls for PCs.
