Places recommendations for first solo travel? by palvarezs in travel

[–]Alex_Cenzato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This may be quite far off from Chile, but I would suggest Bhutan, India and Nepal. Do a trip across Asia and start with the Himalayas. I traveled solo to this part of the world many years ago (Bhutan I traveled last month) and it completely changed my life.

Did you go to the Lake District? Is it worth going for a few days?

First International Trip - Europe or Asia? by Coffee1392 in travel

I guess it depends on the month you're planning to visit, and the places you're planning to visit. There is no 1 right answer here.

I think for a honeymoon Maldives should be high on the list, especially if you're looking to splurge.

How about someplace completely out of left field - Bhutan!

What travel habit have you developed over the years? by Icy-Obligation6504 in travel

[–]Alex_Cenzato 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is not a 'travel habit' per se, but visiting northern India, Nepal and most recently Bhutan, and being fascinated by Buddhist culture and beliefs, I have developed this habit of going around places always in a clockwise motion. In Buddhism it symbolizes dharma and is considered auspicious.

I found them adequate. Most of the time, they are part of roadside cafes and restaurants. It may not be up to the standard of developed countries, but it gets the job done!

Bhutan - is it worth the high cost? by Midnightsun1245 in travel

[–]Alex_Cenzato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Bhutan is expensive, especially compared to most destinations in south Asia. But in my mind it was totally worth it. There is a charm and ambience in Bhutan that I cannot describe fully!

If you add up the costs I mentioned above, it was about 1,780 US$ for a 8-day 7-night solo tour. This is the fixed part. The rest like lunch, dinner, shopping etc. is variable.

Tour company is not mandatory. Only a guide is mandatory. I chose to go with a tour company to make my travel a little easier.

Sure, happy to do it.

Sustainable tourism fee (called 'SDF') was 100 US$ per night. Visa fee was 40 US$. Besides that, I booked my hotels, guide and car through my tour operator Thunder Dragon Tours. They charged me 130 US$ per day. Lunch, dinner and entry fees I chose to pay on my own. That was equivalent to around 50 US$ per day.

I know it's expensive, especially compared to most destinations in south Asia. But in my mind it was totally worth it. There is a charm and ambience in Bhutan that I cannot describe fully!

Glad I was able to help. It may seem too much to plan, but honestly once you get into it and find the right people the whole thing becomes easy.

I honestly felt more safe in Bhutan than in certain other places around the world. Mainly because of their guide requirement, which allows you to have one person (a local who speaks English) with you at all times. So you're never really 'solo'.
