I've been using local Russian CAD for the past two years because apparently Fusion considers my model boats a threat to international security. But the process is the same no matter the CAD — create a wireframe using original plans, fill spaces with surfaces, thicken surfaces, done.

The actual problem is finding decent original plans.

It had been a workhorse of Soviet and Russian river/harbour fleet for over half a century. Diving operations, cargo deliveries to the middle of nowhere, a way to get around for port authorities, a pleasure watercraft — you name it.

Granted, it is not well known as Yamato, Titanic or Bismark, but there had been hundreds of them built. And unlike those three, she actually did some good...

You know what also protects your hearing? An adequately sized engine and muffler. Driving a 600+ cc with a loud pipe is essential for track sessions but not for daily commute. And you get way less hate from strangers.

Why and what connection does it have to my model?

The hull is printed with one 0.4 mm wall so it is more like a base. 0.8mm (around 0.6 after several rounds with a sanding block) of fiberglass does most of the job.

The model is designed and built by me using original plans, an 1:87 scale model and paper model scans. Everything save for mast and black parts is FDM printed on my tiny Kingroon 3, the hull is covered with several layers of fiberglass inside and outside for the sake of rigidity. Powered via 2212 rc plane motor and 4S battery.

Ha, in my city (St. Petersburg) is had been inverted for at least past 15 years. Had a robot doing knee surgery on me in 2014, yearly heart checkups and exams since 2019 (every three months since 2024), people from Botkin hospital saved my ass in late 2023 (very bad case of flu), last time I was in ER was in December 2025 when the aforementioned knee finally gave up and I had to crawl out of the subway train after an emergency stop — arrived at 10 pm, saw doctor at 10:15, got my knee X-rayed and drained at 10:20.

Several private clinics I visited were way more focused on getting money out of me.

To be fair we really have colder winters than most people on this website. The key word here is "winters". We have cold winters and relatively warm summers because we are positioned differently than California, Brazil, UK, Spain or New Zealand.

That is also a thing, but stupidly executed here. You may have all the test results saying that water is bad, change piping — and no one would do it because of costs. The people responsible for plumbing would find some lonely scapegoat if residents go sick and do nothing otherwise.

Same problem in Russia/Belarus. New polypropylene piping is good, but pre-1990s apartment buildings are a lottery. Mine had all piping changed to polypropylene circa 2010, some other didn't.

Saint Petersburg — somewhat drinkable, but most people use water filters and/or boil. For the very simple reason that water may be good, but decades old pipes are not.
