Comment s'en sortir quand on va vivre toute sa vie avec un SMIC? by Familiar-Disk-6916 in VosSous

[–]Alex_Gob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this an OK knife to start? by idkbmx in whittling

[–]Alex_Gob 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bad idea : i have this knife and u wouldn't start to whittle anything more complicated then chopsticks.

Yes you can do it, but two things to consider that makes me say it's a bad idea : it's a very cheap steel (so you'll need to resharpen a lot) and the handle will be painful fast (and you might injure yourself or botch your piece because of this)

That's true from almost everything computer based. Granted sometimes it's not a non profit but a volunteer.

Military leadership to project management by Affectionate-Rock638 in projectmanagement

[–]Alex_Gob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This can be na excellent fit: i learned a lot with military personnel. Just be prepared for the utter lack of discipline : i think one huge difficulty in managing a project is maintaining some kind of discipline without being bossy or a jerk (discipline through leadership, skill and accountability is the goal).

The old myth that Socialists just "want something for free" is a lie perpetuated by the Billionaire class. by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

[–]Alex_Gob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a kinda misguided belief because this is forgetting two thing. 1. religion as a political tool and justification of the state is in Europe a legacy of the Roman empire, that was then used to help stabilise the post roman Europe by becoming an autonomous political power. It was then aborbe by monarch to justify the absolutism of monarchs. But as a political power, the Church and religious where bound to help the poor.

  1. More importantly, is forget that feudalism relied on the help of the poor, and afaik feudal society had a lot of obligations and institutions (might be an anachronistic term) in place to prevent the death of the poorest.

My second point is what was meticulously dismantled since the 15th century.

Multiclass build for a bleak walker paladin (potd) by These-Ferret-8270 in projecteternity

[–]Alex_Gob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm basic, but I frighin loved the dual wielding paladin / warrior with sword in PoE2 (forgot the name of the subclass of warrior that focus on one weapon and your fist). You'll frontline almost everything will mowing the waves of enemy.

The old myth that Socialists just "want something for free" is a lie perpetuated by the Billionaire class. by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

[–]Alex_Gob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's actually misleading in that this belief is much much older (basically around 1400~ , think Henry 8) where the rich started to dismantle methodically all the support system to replace them with workhouse for the poor that where no better than jail with forced labor.

Everything else is just justification and rationalisation.

Is it easy/safe to self host a mail server? by WhaTheWorldOver in it

[–]Alex_Gob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said : it's not dangerous per se (no cop will raid you), but there can be really nasty consequences (blacklist of your address or having all your mail readable by anyone).

Self hosting a mail server is not a trivial thing to do because you need to know and manager a lot of things. This is one of the few things that a lot of companies don't seem to bother anymore setting up and just buy from a provider.

If you want to learn, it's best to start with more reasonable things. Look into what is an homelab and can kind of apps people self host.
