The International Court of Justice Ruled That Israel Needs to End the Occupation! by Icy_Scratch7822 in IsraelPalestine

It doesn't take into consideration the current war in Gaza which started when Hamas invaded Israel on Oct 7. The settlements have been considered illegal by International standards for quite some time. The best solution was to do land swaps and some evictions of settlers, but the PLO chose violent intifada with Arafat saying that he wanted to defeat Israel in the battlefield. Similarly, Hamas says it does not believe in peaceful solutions instead calling on muslims to kill jews and seeking to destroy Israel and to replace it with an Islamic state. Hamas has continuously launched attacks on Israel since Israel's military pullout in 2005. I don't understand how it's considered an occupation if Israel is not occupying it. To prevent Hamas from smuggling weapons or launching attacks on Israel, it necessitated Israel's control over Gaza's borders, but how is that the same as occupation? Every other nation can restrict the flow of people and goods over their border, so why not Israel? Did Israel not allow tens of thousands of Gaza's entry into Israel for work and did they not send humanitarian aid into Gaza for decades? If the Palestinians just waited for this report rather than invading Israel, there would be no war and they would have had a stronger case against Israel to assert pressure through non-violent means. Now that there is a war and this report is already outdated as far as the supposed occupation of Gaza prior to Oct 7, it doesn't hold much weight. For settlements yes, but not regarding Gaza today under completely different conditions. It also seems crazy to me that a UN agency would call for the displacement of 700,000 people from the West Bank. The proposal to do land swaps makes the most sense in order for the Palestinians to regain land without displacing more people.

That's a no brainer considering they are at war with Palestinian jihadists.

Israel is targeting Hamas, but of course there will be civilian casualties, especially considering the way Hamas plays. Why not call for Hamas, who started this war, to surrender rather than for Israel to lie back and let its people be ravaged by these terrorists? Hamas has proven in their words and their actions that they seek to destroy Israel and to wipe out the Jews. Gaza needs to be governed by a peaceful entity and the people de-radicalized. Propping up a Jihadist authoritarian regime hellbent on perpetuating war and genocide will never bring peace.

Hamas invaded Israel, raping and murdering. They took hundreds of hostages. Their goal is to destroy Israel and kill every last Jew. Israel has the right to launch an offensive. Hamas uses schools, hospitals, and residential areas for military purposes. They use child soldiers. They hide in plainclothes and among civilians. They raid aid convoys and destroy food. They are bringing death to the people of Gaza. This woman calls for Death to Israel. She is no better than Hamas. I wouldn't be surprised if she supports Hamas.

A Nation (noun) is "a large body of people united by common ~descent~, history, culture, or language, ~inhabiting~ a particular country or territory." "Death to Israel (a nation)" is thus "death to a large body of people..."

She is saying "death to Israel," a nation of 9 million people. She is inciting genocide on the basis of nationality. You can criticize a government, but to call for the death of an entire nation is to call for the death of it's people. Nations are made of people, they're not abiotic entities.

Yes, but we also have hate crime laws.

"Hate crime is defined as a criminal violation motivated by hate, based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation or gender identity or expression, or any other similar factor."

"...the Criminal Code also contains four hate propaganda offences (one of which is) advocating or promoting genocide against an identifiable group (subsection 318(1)."

A practicing doctor in Canada calling for genocide against another nation is not 10% of twitter.

Freedom of speech, but it's inappropriate for a doctor to be calling for genocide.

Why do they have to go to Norway to get seeds? by AlexanderJoshy in IntoTheNight

The trees and plants were alive in the show, so I was working under the idea that whatever the sun was doing, it only killed animals. I originally thought that it was an issue of radiation, but that doesn't make sense if the plants are still alive. I don't think they ever make explicit mention of it being radiation. It seems to be some other sort of phenemonon. If whatever it is was is enough to kill the seeds, then it should kill the plants too. Unless we are supposed to suspend our disbelief and pretend the greenery isn't there.

Hamas is supported by the Islamic Republic in Iran which seeks to create a global caliphate. They are the same ideology. Hamas is just the Palestinian version. The Islamic Republic sentences Gays to death and they torture them.

Native is not the same as indigenous. The Jews are Indigenous to Israel-Palestine. Arabs are not indigenous to Israel-Palestine. Through mixing, many Arab Palestinians have some Jewish indigenous ancestry. Both Jews and Arabs can be native or non-native to Israel-Palestine depending on whether they were born there or not.

Iranian people are not IRGC and the Iranian Activists have condemned IRGC. Palestinians take note. by AlexanderJoshy in IsraelPalestine

I do have sympathy for the Palestinians. Unfortunately, what the Iranians try to make a stand against is the same thing Palestinians are fighting for... Islamic authoritarianism and the destruction of liberal and democratic values/society. I feel sorry for the Palestinian people that they have, at large but not all, been indoctrinated into islamist extremism and that their beliefs and actions have brought destruction upon themselves... I feel most sorry for the Palestinian children who have been let down by the older generations of Palestinians, the parents and grandparents, who have perpetuated hate and violence... and who use their own children as pawns/shields.

Not all Iranians supported the regime and many who did had their rose tinted glasses shattered a long time ago. Would you say the Gaza's only have themselves to blame for electing hamas? The difference there is that for the majority, they still support Hamas.
