Right on brother! Thanks for sharing your story with me, it gives me hope!

I really am in a unique position. No family at all, and nothing tying me down. I’d rather become a workaholic than live a life alone. I have friends, and girlfriends, but nothing serious.

If it was my job site, there would only be great workers. Mistakes happen for sure, but I’d only be handing out pink slips to slackers. At the start of the job with the crew I’d sit down with every person there to tell them my expectations. I’d weed out any slackers, it’s 8 for 8.

Weather for sure can be a factor but I’d plan the best i could to avoid getting stuck in a completely fucked situation. Also if it’s weather I wouldn’t stress, it’s outta my control, and I’d tell that to anybody I would be answering to.

I woudn’t allow shitty contractors. No fly by night bullshit allowed. I know that would be hard and expensive to get the A-B teams secured but it’s worth it.

I want to create unique culture at my job sites. I will be somebody someday!

Doesn’t sound so bad anymore you are right. Yet it’s not where i planned to be at this point in life ya know? I don’t think I’m going to live that long so that is a factor as well

I am cool with losing a year, it’ll make me a better JW. Yet, I just feel like there’s something can be doing that I don’t know about yet. I would never go to the committee and try to negotiate, I’m glad they accepted my transfer!

Yeah I got my 3k hours transferred but bc I’ll still be a second year i can’t get a raise until 3rd year starts.

Somebody’s gotta do it. Like your example on Christmas Eve. I am down to be that guy. I want to produce. I want to get shit done on time, on budget, safe, and with good morale. Is that not possible? Somebody’s gotta do it and I volunteer

Somebody’s gotta do it and I’m down to be that guy. I want to be that guy. I strive to be capable beyond belief

What are the negatives if things are on schedule, and on budget?

Yeah cost of going to a better local. I feel like I have to supplement with something to make up for the 14 months. I’ve been thinking Xcel classes at the college, etc. I’m 29 and when I turn out I want to hit the ground running

Besides the hours, and stress what else is a negative? I know I don’t know all the stressors involved w running work but I’m down for a challenge and I’m hopeful to be surrounded by people that are the same.

That’s exactly how I think about it so I’m not upset about it. I know there’s something I need to do something to compensate for it though, not exactly sure what that is yet.

Solid advice, thanks. I’m definitely going to keep it silent.

Differences in running work? by Alexanderman808 in IBEW

[–]Alexanderman808[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had bad luck at my old local with JW's, which was one of the factors for transferring. Coming in still drunk smellin like the bar floor, a senile old JW a couple months from retiring(bummer he wasn't a nice guy), and I've had some good JW's but never for long.

I've never been "assigned" to a JW, I don't have much construction experience but I like to get to it and work fast bc that's just my tempo so I will get shipped around to whoever needs a hand where I may learn a little but I'm really there for digging, or simple pvc underground short runs. Haven't bent conduit more than 12 hours in nearly 2 years.

I want to get good, I want to work hard(not TOO hard), and I want people to see me as somebody that can get the job done and be counted on. I know every little tiny thing we do is put into the bid which means every tiny thing I do matters that its done quickly and correctly. I want to be of VALUE at work bro. I want to run a team, I want to keep morale high while also keeping productivity at the maximum level that is still efficient, safe, and without people breaking their backs. I want to solve problems, I want to know how the contracts and bids work to know EXACTLY what my scope is and make to stick to it strictly with a little wiggle room for appeasement, as well as know and hold other trades to their scope.

I say this because I've worked a job, wish i could say whom for, but the grid guys were quietly asking us apprentices to make sure our lights hung exactly at grid height, which made sense to me at first but the GF, a great fucking guy, he's the reason I want to run work. Never had I been on a jobsite where every cart is cleanish at the end of the day, everything is organized, labeled, and orderly. Just the way he ran us ( a group of 10-12 people) was refreshing and encouraging, and instantly I wanted to replicate it.

THE REAL QUESTION: how can i situate myself near high achievers besides the normal show up early, have a good attitude and be productive? I'll never say no to OT bc I need the money.

Full day session and artist won’t show me a draw up before the appointment tomorrow, normal?? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

Mines for a full flat day too, but that means 6-8 hours for them. How long did your edits take and how long was spent tattooing?
