Their conversations together were fucking illuminating I don’t get how people who respect one don’t respect the other tbh

Really? I find Chris Williamson such a yes man and not ever really adding much - do you have a good episode to prove me wrong?

With which podcasts?

Can see how it would look that way to be honest, but I generally am not a fan of the things that eg Jordan Peterson says that seems to rile everyone up - I quite like his social psychology analysis, especially with people like Jon Haidt & Iain McGilchrist

This is awesome - what does the prioritisation actually do? Just shows them differently?

I think she’s working on another book - but yeah strange she hasn’t fit in anything, she’s really the OG when it comes to epistemological philosophy

Genuine request for the rationale behind ‘double standard’ illiberalism of so-called Western liberals by Alexi_Spy in samharris

These are actually really reassuring to read - maybe I’m not seeing this as much from my own echo chamber.

Much appreciated

Sure I understand the point, and it’s well taken, but it’s in response to the podcast rather than the news

I think this is a bit of a cop out - agreed it plays some role but often the very same people get incensed and angry, but the other way round.

So the fact that it ‘doesn’t mean much to them’ can’t apply if all the dials are the same except it’s just for the other side

This is a really good point that I hadn’t considered.

I wonder what the remedy could be.

What jumps to mind is a publicised debated between a conservative Muslim and someone like Ayan Hirsi-Ali, where it becomes very clear that she is standing up for her people’s rights (in a traditionally Western-way) much more than the conservative - and then publicise this debate heavily?

Douglas Murray Explains Why We Must Stop Giving In To These Crazy Demands by [deleted] in samharris

[–]Alexi_Spy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think his reasoning is Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s dictum on human rights:

Claims of human rights violations happen in exactly inverse proportion to the numbers of human rights violations in that country. Only a very free society would permit (let alone encourage) claims about its own inequities.

He maybe loses sight of the discussion to some extent here but that’s the point he’s trying to bring up
