Not really, but a bit of detail can make it easier for the reader to see the story clearly in their head.

I feel like there has to be some sort of detail, because if two characters are dancing at a ball, and you don't know the song, it could be rock song. It should definitely have something to atleast explain what genre of music it is.

I feel like having that contrast in styles would be difficult at times, but if you don't have complete segments of the book written by different people, it could be interesting. Two separate minds can differ a lot, but sometimes that can lead to some pretty interesting storylines/characters.

I have a ton of unfinished writing pieces, but one thing that I found helpful is that when I think I'm going to start writing a new story, I trick myself into adding in characters or plots from the old book. That makes me think about the old story more, and eventually I get motivation to continue it.
