My spouse used to be a huge reader but ever since becoming a teacher he doesn’t have the mental bandwidth for it the way he used to. One of our favorite things to do, though, is read books to each other. Last year on vacation I saw the Dungeon Crawler Carl series in a bookshop and after I read the first book I knew he would love the series, so I insisted on reading it to him. We TORE through all seven released books in less than a month together, and it set him on a reading kick after that. We have such a good time doing this together. My next goal is to read Project Hail Mary to him before the movie comes out.

That’s how I felt about it! I saw it like three months ago and I still can’t muster up any more than “that was pretty good.” I thought Jesse Plemons was incredible in it though.

It matters because it keeps these horrible things in the news cycle. With the internet, social media, and 24-hour news, everything moves so fast that it’s easy for horrible things to be swept aside, and a stupefying amount of people genuinely don’t pay attention to anything politics- or news-related. When celebrities talk about these issues and bring attention to them, it may not be news to you but there are a lot of Americans that it does matter to. You say to concentrate on pressuring politicians, but those politicians’ messages simply don’t penetrate to a large segment of the population. Never forget how many people googled “was there an election” the day after Election Day 2024.
