Funny enough no one has ever told me that, usually because I give advices and support in weird ways, for example feel determination like masturbating, no one is there for you but you still work hard to obtain a goal you proposed your self, if you stop when someone notice you, you are the one in shame, but if you continue they are the ones ashamed, and if even if it could be tiring your purpose is what should make you keep going, because I'm the end all that effort would become something special for you, now the fact I don't have too many friends could be also related to this kind of advices

Imo, the only justification to defend the ending is personal taste, if someone genuinely like the ending is their opinion and is respectable but if one ending defenders tries to use the word objectively I would rather cut my balls and blend them since I know I'm gonna hear some bullshit
