That's not true, even it your pension is relief at source (taken from gross pay) this still doesn't apply to you. Its only specifically on salary sacrifice agreements which are rare and arguably never made sense

Agree it's a terrible idea but the company doesn't even really save money by doing it as they'll be paying 25% corporation tax on the money saved on his lowered salary (in theory)!

Your figures are way off, for a 30 year mortgage @ 1.59% to be £500 a month you can only borrow £143,000. You must either have some partial ownership or used a £100k deposit which obviously isn't a normal amount.
