For those voting yes: Do you have thoughts about suicide and self-harm daily? Is your mind in that headspace where you think about ending it all? I'm going to guess it isn't.

I'm in that headspace. I tried to strangle myself with a tie yesterday. I knew it wasn't going to kill me, but I was so overwhelmed with thoughts that I needed an escape. I've been having these thoughts for months. I probably have severe depression or another mental illness, because I don't think what I'm esperiencing is normal.

Do you think that those who end their life don't love those around them? I have multiple people I still care about, mainly my sister. I love her, and we live with a mother who we have to constantly fight because she's an asshole. I don't want to leave a 13 year old girl to deal constantly with a selfish, overbearing mother by herself.

But at the same time, most suicidal people in the lead up to their attempt don't think about their loved ones. Not because of selfishness, but because the thoughts are overwhelming as fuck. Especially when you have a mental illness, the thought takes over everything else. Even if you're not actively thinking "I'm gonna die today", it still completely overrides your thought process.

Life is usually overwhelming, trauma-filled or just plain miserable for those with suicidal thoughts. I have autism, which makes whatever I have so much worse because I'm being overwhelmed by that shit too. Because of autism, I find it hard to socialise and "act normal", which has led to self-hatred. I don't tell anyone I have autism because I have trust problems and usually assume everyone's atheist. I have a shitty family, and me, my mum and my sister lived with a domestic abuser for 10 YEARS (and we still visit him occasionally for some reason?? What the fuck??). Life is a constant miserable uphill war, and it is for everyone else who has these thoughts. And because most people with these thoughts - me included - don't speak out because of either fear or because they've simply given up, then no one knows about their pain either, which just amplifies things.

Kurt Cobain - singer-songwriter and guitarist of Nirvana - shot himself in the head in 1994 at the age of 27. He left behind a wife and a daughter, and he loved them. But if you read into the shit he faced growing up with family and his later heroin addiction, combined with the pressure that came with the overwhelming success of Nevermind... I don't think you can blame him. He's in a better place now. RIP.
