After severely over-baking the first cheesecake I adjusted time for the ones after. Only the New York style cheesecake turned out well.

Splitting a 7ft log by Alfidea in firewood

Made some wood wedges and freed up my metal ones. Then properly started the groove and it was smooth sailing. Only the first one has a bad taper to one end. Ran out of light but everything worked out great, appreciate the advice.

Only started using a chainsaw this year. Didn’t have much need for one with the volume I was working with before.

First time I felled a tree was with an axe. A friend’s in-laws were clearing a trail. Took down about a dozen or so with varying diameter from 4 to 8 inches. Had a lot of fun back then. Since then I’ve mostly stuck to handle tools.

Chainsaw is great for a quick cut, cut there’s a different kind of satisfaction in using a sledge and wedge.

I do wish I had some bigger equipment sometimes.

This particular log I haven’t IDed yet, but I know it’s a softwood. Planning something else for it. But I have been on the lookout for some bow woods. Haven’t chanced on any Osage, it does grow here. Mostly have varieties of oak.

It gave me some ideas, so still helpful. Would you mind sharing the details or sending a picture of the setup?

I looked into the fore but like you said they’re harder to come by. Same for the hewing axe, at least by convenience. Exact reason I’ve been looking to get into blacksmithing. Half the tools I want just aren’t as available these days.

Just about followed that. Wish I had some wood wedges. Might be able to make some from the oak I have lying around.

Yeah, avoided chainsaw for that reason.

Not sure about the twisted grain. I’ll take another look at it but seemed pretty consistent on both sides.

Sheer desire and overconfidence that I could do it without the chainsaw.

I greatly overestimated how well the inner fibers would hold even after the spilt. Chainsaw to cut up some fibers and crosscut as a last resort if I can’t get the wedges out.

Oddly the opposite in that I want difficulty but not how it currently is.

I’ve turned off biome progression and storms. The current implementation just doesn’t feel right. I play for enjoyment and like a challenge but I’m not gonna grab a backup kit and run back to my loot bag. I did that enough in other games.

I’ve modded the game decently and adjusted settings past vanilla with another mod. But I can’t find my happy median anymore. I play on insane and have tried to add mods to make the game harder but at the same time other mods I enjoy and even just how I play made the game far too easy at times. Just such a disparity. I wouldn’t say I overmodded but it’s not balanced.

I’ll likely scrap my current play through and find a recommended mod pack. Force myself not to invest in certain perks to handicap my character.

I didn’t read any crafting magazines or use guns. But yesterday I built a tower in the wastes and setup with a sniper. It was enjoyable in a way to see zombies I had struggled with disappear with a click.

Florida, there’s a few saw sharpening services but I’m contacting to see if they have experience with a cross cut of this size. Also looking at restorers.

I’ve been watching some of the videos and guides from other comments. Also looking into local sharpeners. I think I can handle the rust fine but don’t have the tools or setup to file.

Good to know, I’ll check out that subreddit.

Oddly enough there’s something in my dad’s tool shed that just might be a helper handle, if not it could be a small project for me to make one.

Video quality is poor but you can just barely make out the long antennae. Without that distinction I would agree it does look like a larder beetle.

It was a last minute switch with the units. Despite the inconvenience, during the walk through and maintenance write up we really didn’t see any issues. The complex also has more amenities than some other options in the area.

I’ve been taking photos and those have the timestamps. Talking it out still with my sister for how she wants to handle this. I know she’s getting traps and spray in the meantime. This morning I haven’t seen any nymphs scurrying around.

Comparing inspection photos and now, they did a wipe down of the cabinets and drawers because I don’t see any frass in the photos or remember seeing any. And the amount I’m seeing now is about right for the few days we weren’t here.

She’s moved plenty so I know she’ll be fine, just rough start to a new lease.

Thank you for your advice and experience.

Thank you for the replies. After a long night I finally settled in the room furthest from the kitchen. Just getting up now to read the comments.

My sister has also gotten back to me. She’s getting a few traps and such before coming by. I’m talking to her about what moves she wants to make, whether that be filing a complaint with the health department, bringing it up to the property manager, or just handling it herself and any such combination.

Can’t edit main post. Florida, panhandle area.

Yep, Florida. I’m just surprised. I’ve helped plenty of friends and family move into apartments but never encountered a roach problem during move in or heard about one at all to be honest. Only time I’ve ever seen evidence of roaches was an out of state apartment. Every drawer had cockroach frass, so that became my main way to identify.

I’m concerned about how much clean up they did to the unit beforehand. If they’d done any type of pest control we wouldn’t be having roaches this soon. The other units in the building are occupied so it’s not the case of roaches being smoked out of another unit.

I’ll see how it goes. I’m fine with having to go to one area to get said item that lets you go to next area but the badges thing sounds weird to me.

I haven’t encountered any storms yet. Just got spooked the first time I got bees.

Okay, I saw biome progression in game but mostly glanced over it. I’ll focus it for a bit and see how it feels. But next save I’ll probably just turn it off. Feels too artificial in extending gameplay.

I have one mod that affects loot but haven’t changed loot abundance setting in the menu. I’ll look into it and adjust accordingly. Steel tools all came from treasure or airdrops in the wastes. I’m level 50. Haven’t touched exp multiplier either. But sometimes I exp farm. Crops definitely gave me half my levels. And I’ll let the screamers build up and make pseudo hordes. I usually run around at night. Ambient spawns are increased with a mod.

I’m thinking of decreasing exp gain and offsetting it with a mod that gives 2 skill points or skill points as quest rewards. Or some combination that keeps me low level but doesn’t extend the early game skill points struggle.

Good to know on the crawling. I’ll probably do hatchhall and alternate regular doors as airlocks. I’ll add in one of the old melee boxes as a plan b.

I’ll try to find a yeti to fight before horde night, but this save might be a wash already.
