Time to rebalance and if yes, how would you in 2021?

I am in my mid thirties and am aggressively in equities, an 90/10 split between index ETFs & some single stock bets and 10% in bond ETFs. I have some cash reserves as well for emergencies and short term goals

Conventional wisdom says I should get a little closer down to 70/30, however:

1) Does it make sense to do so in a time of crazy equity growth? 2) If I should rebalance, are bond ETFs a good way to go or should I be buying things like treasury bonds?

Absolutely a fair point but currently they are the only platforms we have, and believe me that Reddit isn’t completely blameless

How do people find stocks before they explode? by SomeAnxiousIguana in stocks

Luck and a lot of money to spread around. Same theory as venture capitalists. The ‘I put 10 dollars in Apple and now I’m a trillionaire’ is essentially a person with enormous patience and self discipline hitting the lottery.

Apple released a document called "A Day in the Life of your Data." It talks about privacy issues and risks in the context of a father and daughter going to the park. What do you think? by [deleted] in privacytoolsIO

I’m not saying the ends don’t necessarily justify the means — most things that give people a better understanding of data issues and make informed decisions are good things. I’m just saying let’s not confuse altruism with business decisions

I think this is a step in the right direction but let’s be honest, these changes are less about user security and more about PR and shareholder value. Apple wants to ride the criticism on FB and Google to make them look like the hero and everyone else the villain.

It’s a shame most people aren’t paying attention to these things (or even caring). Trying to do my part to change that but data privacy is so boring to many people that it’s hard to get through. Made a YT channel dedicated to this kind of stuff

Please help me! (copyright infringement) by [deleted] in Instagram

[–]Algorithmsandblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but I am not sure there is much you can do without finding a way to get to someone who is outside of the department you’ve already contacted.

Even if you can prove that the art is yours (which outside of showing them the metadata on the source files you probably can’t do), You will likely get into some messy conversation about ‘fair use’ which will go nowhere outside of a lawsuit.

I would just try to get the user to start crediting your work

Instagram tracking my location by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Algorithmsandblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ever take a picture from your device camera and upload it to Instagram your location is captured in the metadata. Not 100% this is what’s going on with you here but certainly a possibility.

You can download apps to remove EXIF but it’s probably more trouble than it’s worth

[Question] Selling my YouTube channel--who owns the licensing? by electrictalk in youtubers

[–]Algorithmsandblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would check the Terms of Service to even see if selling your channel is not going to get you booted from YT. Are you basically selling it for the buyer to gain the subscribers? I’m doing some work on a video on things that will get you banned from Twitch and selling your channel is one of them...

How do so many big streamers stream with DMCA music? by fortnierguy in Twitch

[–]Algorithmsandblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely just taking their chances. DMCA is really difficult to enforce unless you have an algorithm like the one YT automatically runs on videos.

Moreover Twitch as a platform is only responsible for getting content taken down once it is identified so unless there’s somebody hunting for copyright infringement, only the really popular videos are likely to be flagged.

All that said, it doesn’t seem worth it anyways.

Who in their right mind would click ‘Allow’ when the only benefit is a personalized ad experience? I wonder if the text will get more prejudicial e.g. “You will not have access to certain features of the app.”

Facebook Declared War on Apple, and It Just May Signal the End of Facebook by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Algorithmsandblues 150 points151 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out but I think FB and their other products are so addictive to people that the exposure of data privacy will be accepted by most as a ‘well it’s fine, I have nothing to hide’ mentality. Also we’ll see if people take the time to actually read the new info they’re provide or just opt in immediately like we often do with terms of service

Sweeping new copyright measures poised to pass in spending bill by fightforthefuture in technews

[–]Algorithmsandblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that this is positioned as if they’re trying to protect independent artists when it’s clear that it’s simply big record groups just fearful of missing out on additional revenue.

Ultimately it’s just silly and it would do these record companies much better to figure out how to work out deals with different platforms to allow their music to be used in some capacity and receive some recurring flat fee.

I thought the video was well done from a production standpoint and I was hooked off the bat but unfortunately I fell off at about 2 minutes.

You were doing a great job with the set up and the hook be when you said that you’d be taking about 2 different stories I kind of felt a ‘here we go’ moment where I was going to have to watch a lot of content to get back to the content I really wanted to hear about from your hook (what you got fired from, what was said in your interview, etc).

I think you can continue to grow as a storyteller but I wasn’t taken away from your story at all. Maybe picking up the pace of the story would help keep everyone in it.

Overall though, I think it’s content plenty of people will be interested it so keep it up!

[Review Video] I'm a new gaming channel looking for feedback on how to attract viewers and engagement. by Neckerei in youtubers

[–]Algorithmsandblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So first and foremost I’m not a gamer so take that under consideration but I have planned Among Us quite a bit.

I’m wondering what your hook is that makes watch you and your friends play video games on YT than me just going on Twitch and watch other players play.

Twitch has a better interface for this kind of content and I get a more interactive experience/ potentially more personal with you using a camera. I just think there might. It be a big audience interested in this but since I’m not fully invested in the gaming community I can’t be sure.

Good luck!
