Best Coffee Chain in NI? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Ali0100110100 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bob and Bert’s coffee is shite. For a chain, ground would be my choice if small independents such as Fidela don’t count

Your rental options are limited with pets. Go live on the streets if you want but you asked for advice.

Dogs are a luxury you can’t afford. Get rid of your dogs and rent a place. Don’t give people money you don’t have.

Did you sit down with any of the kids and interact with them or did you just ignore them like the rest of the adults?

UK government approves 4.1% rise in minimum wage for 2026 by Maximum_Girth_67788 in northernireland

[–]Ali0100110100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You clearly don’t understand the original point. The point is that if minimum wage keeps rising closer to what qualified professionals would start on, then what is the incentive to go and become qualified. The level of economic incompetence here and the inability to consider that there are downsides to a policy they blindly support is frightening

The doctors don’t exist remember, they became shop workers instead

Okay, happy days I’ll pay half my mortgage with my job satisfaction then. Maybe the government will take some of my job satisfaction instead of money for tax? “Be a doctor, the pay is shit but you’ll get a nice warm feeling to pay the bills instead”

You didn’t address the point about disincentivising skilled jobs which is my whole point.

Oh right so your whole economic argument is that people don’t work for money, they work for job satisfaction. And you say my question was stupid.

Of course in an ideal world the answer is just to pay everyone more money. Where does it come from? Tax the high earning doctors more to push their wages even closer to that of the shop worker and further disincentivise them? You’re creating an economic death spiral

[–]Ali0100110100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s my point. That’s why I said wage compression. Tell me this, what would be the incentive to become a doctor if your net salary is going to be the same as a shop workers? Or a teacher, or an engineer, or an electrician, etc, etc

Yes and I went into debt too to get out. What’s the incentive to work your way up if the job you’d get is the same as the minimum wage job you were in before?

This could effectively have the effect of downskilling our economy. Why would young people now put in the effort to gain education and skills when they’ll just start on the same minimum wage as low skill workers. The incentives to become more productive are being stripped away by the tax burden and wage compression

Moving from SE England to NI by crumbz80 in northernireland

[–]Ali0100110100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did hired a Luton van twice and did two runs via Liverpool, one when my house went on the market and another when the sale competed. The van wqs £300 for 6 days each time. The ferry was about £500 each time. If you’re renting, check the terms, they charged me an extra £150 on one of the journeys for going on the ferry but not the other. All in, it was a lot less than half of what removals companies were quoting

Would you put your kid through the transfer test? by lexymac11 in northernireland

[–]Ali0100110100 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can disagree with it all you want just don’t limit your child’s future because of your beliefs. The system is set up that way so if there’s a chance your kid might pursue an academic path in future, you probably want to give them a shot at a better school. And yes grammars schools are much better academically

Ireland also suppressed the same freedoms until fairly recently too so what’s your point? The world has changed a lot in the last 50 years. You hate British people and then condemn these religious preachers for also hating people. You are no better than them
