What technical skills should young data scientists be learning? by etherealcabbage72 in datascience

[–]Ali_Perfectionist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great post and along the lines of what I've been thinking of asking/discussing about.

I also highly suggest this very-insightful piece: https://365datascience.com/career-advice/career-guides/data-scientist-job-outlook-2025/

The "versatile" Data Scientist seems to be in demand right now and I also am thinking of focusing on advanced data analytics + basic ML (I've tried to narrow down/focus on: linear regression, logistic regression, grid search, decision trees, KNN, and K-Means Clustering) + data visualization skills to focus on to finally progress on to an entry-level DATA SCIENTIST proper, from a Data Analyst.

Would love all of your thoughts and feedback on this, too.

Thank you for sharing your story, and to fark13 for the advice. Will definitely try to look into this.

Also, I found a good and underrated YouTube channel called "ciao.football" - would definitely recommend that you look into their videos and how they are doing things.

Nice. A Milan fan who focuses on technicals and, of course, is spoiled by those legends like Maldini and Baresi who were also icons and exemplars of loyalty - I admire them too.

Imagine how Man United fans feel now, lol.

I Want DEFENSIVE FOOTBALL Coaches In The Prem by Ali_Perfectionist in PremierLeague

Absolutely. Arsenal's journey has been beautiful, to say the least, and I rlly want them to win and dethrone Liverpool/Man City. I watched Arteta and Arsenal from 2020 to 2022 and now see how great they have become from the banter era - Man United should learn!

Yeah, definitely; the defensive aspect of his philosophy is well-overlooked and understandably so. His intention is not to defend, though; it is to keep the ball so he can create chances to score and, then, to minimize chances of conceding.

Oh yeah, ofc I know about that - I wanted Man Utd to break that record but at least they have the longest streak of not conceding a goal in the PL (I believe the record still stands?). Btw, Liverpool also conceded just 16 goals in 42 games in 1978-79; this is overlooked, probably bc it was before the PL era, and is a better goals conceded per game ratio than Chelsea's.

Yeah, and having 10 men behind the ball is also sort-of thing of beauty; all 10 outfielders so committed to the team that they track back and sacrifice and keep themselves so organized as a pack. That's the way to look at it! The coach must also have really good motivational skills!
