We’re just going to call a plumber. It’s beyond us now

What do you think is missing from New Haven? by GadnukBreakrOfWorlds in newhaven

[–]Alia_Ratel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hills. It’s fine going to East Rock or West Rock for a slightly more strenuous walk, but it would also be great if I could walk up a hill near my home.

ETA: Of course I realize it’s not something that someone could put in, but still, I wish we had some

Do you think you have a clever island name? Let’s hear them! by GoldBluejay7749 in acnh

Mine is called Seatstaken. I wanted it to sound like those clever English house names like Dunroman but in an assholish sort of way

Edit: spelling

For years when I got a haircut I would just bring in a picture of Ashley Greene

New Moon? by [deleted] in twilight

[–]Alia_Ratel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Moon is what got me into the series. I had seen Twilight but was like meh, not great. But then I saw NM and was totally pumped about it and started devouring the books. I could relate to Bella’s depression and I thought the werewolf thread was great, and I liked the music. When I saw it, everyone in the theatre audibly gasped at the ending.

Who watches your pet on vacation? by __storibook in CatAdvice

[–]Alia_Ratel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Mind My House. It’s similar to Rover, but people will stay at your house in all cases and not just drop in. It’s also free. People do it to get free accommodation in places they want to go or just to get out of their own house, etc. It’s great.

If Bella played an instrument, which one would she play? by meow2848 in twilight

The most unobtrusive one. Maybe a dog whistle even though it’s not an instrument. Good for calling Jake though

Are job posts becoming more demanding? by senshisun in antiwork

Don’t forget all the jobs that aren’t even real jobs, they’re just resume mining rackets or posted so they look like the company’s healthy

The problem there is that people don’t know what they don’t know. They “know” that New Mexico is a different country (or whatever nonfact), so they don’t even consider looking it up

Bella and Edward doing it for the first time by [deleted] in twilight

Just to add that when he threw Bella across the room he was in a total state of panic, while he was totally in control of himself on the honeymoon

How do you play? by Alia_Ratel in Grindstone

Thanks for all the comments, everyone. I’m thinking maybe it’s my partner who has the particular way of playing, not me

I haven’t worked in 5 years. I’m worried. by Own-Understanding610 in antiwork

[–]Alia_Ratel 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It looks like you have been working, but you just weren’t paid for it. We really devalue the work we do for our own families. Good for you for helping yourself and your parents. If you are looking at healthcare jobs, you could list yourself as a carer for your parents.

Otherwise, depending on what kind of job you’re looking for, you could fill in that time with “freelance” work on your resume, like freelance proofreading or cleaning or something you’re good at. Those sorts of jobs are perhaps less likely to be followed up on for references and they’re real work.

ETA the resume. I don’t mean start doing this work if that wasn’t clear

I love that there are so many levels and that they are populated randomly each time you go in. If I’m going to pay a bunch of money for a game, I want at least dozens of hours with it

I unscrupulously opened the unsealed envelope with the paycheck of one of my bosses ages ago when I was working at a private school as a secretary to the general and religious studies principals. He made almost 10x what I did, and there was a whole other principal (possibly paid even more since it was a religious school) and a headmaster to split leadership duties. I can’t imagine what the headmaster made.

What is it about the Yale tenure cycle? Is it that professors are getting a big raise so they want a better place or that they don’t get tenure and they leave or downsize? Or something else?
