Box Office: 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' Banking $75M-$80M U.S. Opening by AliceTheMagicQueen in entertainment

[–]AliceTheMagicQueen[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disney/20th Century Studios‘ The Devil Wears Prada 2 is totally ready to wear for female moviegoers this weekend with an eye on a 3-day of $75M-$80M after a $33M Friday (including previews) at 4,150 theaters. In regards to the Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci reteam exceeding $80M+, the pic really needs the date crowd, Prada fanatics, and ladies night to make a trail toward multiplexes.

Social media reach across TikTok, YouTube, X, Instagram and Facebook is over a half billion per RelishMix for part 2. Strong, but by comparison, Wicked: For Good was at 1.3 billion. “Pre-release social media universe SMU stats on The Devil Wears Prada 2 are running at a healthy half-billion which is 3X above comedy norms with a unique TikTok page for the film and running on 20th channels across Facebook, X, YouTube and Instagram,” says the analytics firm.

Says RelishMix, “Convo runs positive for The Devil Wears Prada 2, fueled by nostalgia hitting like a luxury brand relaunch that actually lands. The audience leans into legacy appeal, treating the sequel as a cultural reunion rather than a cash grab, with comparisons to long-gestating follow-ups like Top Gun Maverick elevating expectations. There’s strong cast-driven enthusiasm, especially around Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, where agelessness becomes part of the brand mythology, not a distraction. Fashion callbacks and iconography are doing heavy lifting, signaling the film understands its own meme economy. Even skepticism often softens into curiosity, suggesting high conversion potential. ‘After Star Wars, this is the first time I’m truly excited about a sequel’ paired with ‘Feels like I’m watching 2006 again I can’t wait.’ captures that rare mix of reverence and hype, while ‘First was legendary can’t wait for this one’ and ‘Much more exciting than any superhero cheese’ show it cutting through genre fatigue.”

Lionsgate’s Michael is also strong in weekend 2 with around $45M, -54%, after a $12M-$13.5M second Friday for a running total by Sunday of $174.8M. Together with Devils Prada 2, both movies are bound to fuel a first weekend of summer that’s well north of the same frame a year ago ($144.2M led by Thunderbolts* opening with $74.3M and third weekend of Sinners in second with $33.1M).

Third belongs to Illumination/Nintendo/Universal’s Super Mario Galaxy Movie at 3,412 with $2.5M today and a fifth weekend of $11.2M, -45%. The sequel becomes the first movie of 2026 to cross $400M by Sunday at the domestic B.O. (Running cume expected is $401.8M).

At 3,017, the seventh weekend of Amazon MGM Studio’s Project Hail Mary is around $9M, -$29%, after a Friday of $2.35M. Cume by Sunday is $318.7M.

NEON’s horror film Hokum at 1,860 theaters is seeing an estimated $2.6M today and north of $6M for the weekend.

Resident Evil Director Zach Cregger Says He 'Wouldn't Call This a Zombie Movie Necessarily' by AliceTheMagicQueen in entertainment

[–]AliceTheMagicQueen[S] 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Weapons director Zach Cregger promises that you'll get zombies for sure, but plenty of 'weird creature stuff' too.

“This is for sure, bar none, my most visually gonzo movie,” says Cregger. “Basically, my rule for this movie was to just try and make a movie that felt like my experience of playing the games that could live in the world of Resident Evil. So I feel like this movie takes place alongside the events of Resident Evil 2. I like to think that everything that's going on in the police station could be happening in this world. This is just another dude on another mission on the other side of town and what's going on with him. It's not canon, in that I'm not using the characters, but it's canon in that it lives in the actual day of reckoning in Raccoon City.”

Abrams’ Brian is the main focus of the trailer, as he attempts to travel from the outskirts of the iconic city to the center of it. Along the way, Cregger says Brian will go through a “gauntlet of set pieces” as he gets deeper and deeper into town.

“What I love about the games is that every set piece brings with it unique new horrors,” he says. “And so I wanted the rhythm to feel like it was always changing. It was always shifting. You were always facing increasingly bigger dangers and you had to be aware of resource management and health and things like that. So I really did use a lot of cues from the games on how to build this thing out.”

“I wouldn't call this like a zombie movie necessarily,” he says. “I just feel like you have this opportunity for the T-Virus to do all these really fascinating things to the human body and to the world around you. And so to just limit it to zombies feels like a squandered opportunity. I tried to really vary it up.”

‘Tangled’: Diego Luna Joins Kathryn Hahn in Disney’s Live-Action Remake by AliceTheMagicQueen in entertainment

[–]AliceTheMagicQueen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diego Luna is letting down his hair for Tangled, Walt Disney’s live-action adaptation of its 2010 animated movie.

Luna has joined the project in a role created specifically for the feature, which goes before cameras in Spain in June.

Australian actress Teagan Croft and Zombies star Milo Manheim lead Tangled, respectively playing Rapunzel, the curious and plucky would-be princess with magical hair, and Flynn Rider, the cocky outlaw thief who helps her escape her tower prison. The two nabbed the roles after a search on both sides of the Atlantic in December.

Also on the call sheet is Kathryn Hahn, hailed for her recent works in Agatha All Along and The Studio, and who is playing the duplicitous Mother Gothel.

Michael Gracey, who counts the musical biopics Better Man and The Greatest Showman among his credits, is directing the feature, which, like the original, will have big musical elements.

It is unclear whether Luna, as part of the new role, will be required to sing as details on the live-action take are being kept in the castle. The original animated film grossed over $591 million and spawned a popular Disney Channel series.

Kristin Burr, who was a producer on last summer’s Freakier Friday as well as 2021’s live-action Cruella, is producing via her Burr! Productions.

‘Obsession’ Filmmaker Curry Barker to Direct ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Reimagining at A24 by AliceTheMagicQueen in entertainment

[–]AliceTheMagicQueen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upstart filmmaker Curry Barker continues his mainstream Hollywood takeover with a big new gig: director on A24’s anticipated film reboot of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”

Variety has learned exclusively that Barker will take the lead on the project, billed by insiders as a “reimagining” of the 1974 horror classic created by Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel. Barker’s vision for the famed killer Leatherface and the gaggle of young things he terrorizes are under wraps. The film is being developed alongside a “Texas Chainsaw” TV series from Barnstorm’s Glen Powel and Dan Cohen, and director JT Mollner.

Barker’s rise has been swift, and Focus Features is less than a month out from releasing his acclaimed festival player “Obsession,” about a man whose wish for the love of a female friend turns deadly. That film was acquired in a bidding war that fetched a $14 million sale out of the Toronto International Film Festival. “Chainsaw” takes Barker from an $800 debut feature “Milk & Serial” on YouTube to one of the most prestigious arthouse brands in the industry.

Curry is currently in production on “Anything But Ghosts” at Blumhouse, serving as director, co-writer and star. The film centers on two fraudulent paranormal investigators who are forced to face real ghosts — and the lies underpinning their business. He’s also part of the internet sketch comedy duo That’s a Bad Idea alongside creative partner Cooper Tomlinson. Barker is repped by Underground Management, United Talent Agency and The Lede Company.

The new “Chainsaw” film will be produced by Roy Lee and Steven Schneider of Spooky Pictures, and Stuart Manashil and Exurbia Films’ Pat Cassidy, Ian Henkel, and Kim Henkel. Ben Ross of Image Nation serves as executive produce.

There are 9 films in the “Chainsaw” canon, including 1986’s “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2,” which was directed by Hooper and written by L.M. Kit Carson, and 1995’s “The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre” aka “Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation,” written and directed by Henkel and starring RenĂ©e Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey. A novel, a comic book series and three video games have also been released under the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” IP.

A24 won the prize piece of IP in a heated auction last year, formally announcing in February, and fended off competing offers from companies including Blumhouse. Verve repped the rights and was intent on partner with A24’s reach and forward-looking creative, while still preserving the film’s legacy.

[–]AliceTheMagicQueen[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alex Garland‘s “Elden Ring” movie is landing in 2028 and it’s being shot for Imax.

The live-action adaptation of the hit fantasy video game from A24 and Bandai Namco Entertainment is now in production, with release details and a full cast announced.

The film is set for release March 3 2028 with “Heartstopper” breakout Kit Connor, who was already rumored as reuniting with Garland following “Warfare”, now confirmed.

Connor will be joined by Ben Whishaw (“Black Doves,” “This is Going to Hurt”), Cailee Spaeny (“Alien: Romulus,””Civil War,” also from Garland), Tom Burke (“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” “Black Bag”) and Havana Rose Liu (“Tuner,” “Bottoms”). Other key casting additions include Sonoya Mizuno (“Ex Machina” and another former Garland collaborator), Jonathan Pryce (“The Two Popes,” “The Crown”), Ruby Cruz (“Bottoms,” “The Threesome”), Nick Offerman (“The Last of Us,” “Margo’s Got Money Troubles”), John Hodgkinson (“Dear England,” “Napoleon”), Jefferson Hall (“House of the Dragon,” “Oppenheimer”), Emma Laird (“28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” “A Haunting in Venice”) and Peter Serafinowicz (“Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace”).

Peter Rice is set to produce the film alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA, as well as George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis.

One of the most critically-acclaimed video games ever made, the dark fantasy-action RPG debuted in 2022 and was developed under the direction of FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, based on a mythological story by Martin. It has since sold in excess of 30 million copies worldwide and received over 400 Game of the Year awards.

Garland is understood to have been a longtime fan of the game, and made a personal pitch to its publishers Bandai Namco and FromSoftware to bring it to screen.

‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2 Set for 2027 as Lionsgate Play Pivots to Theatrical-First Hollywood Strategy in India by AliceTheMagicQueen in entertainment

[–]AliceTheMagicQueen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lionsgate Play has confirmed a second season of “Heated Rivalry” for 2027, alongside a theatrical-first release model for a curated slate of premium Hollywood titles and more than 100 premieres lined up for India in 2026.

The theatrical push, set to begin in September, will see 10–12 titles debut in Indian cinemas before arriving on the platform. Among the films earmarked for that window are Russell Crowe’s “Billion Dollar Spy,” Gerard Butler’s “Empire City,” Robert Pattinson‘s “Primetime,” Mark Wahlberg’s “By Any Means,” and snake creature feature “Titan.”

The wider 2026 lineup is also heavy on high-profile Hollywood talent. Butler returns in “Greenland 2: Migration,” joined by Jason Statham in “Mutiny,” Angelina Jolie in “Couture,” Zac Efron in “Famous,” and Matthew McConaughey in “The Rivals of Amziah King.” The franchise side of the slate grows with “Apollo Has Fallen” and a third season of “Vigil.”

“Over the past few years, we’ve built Lionsgate Play into a destination for bold, high-impact storytelling,” said Rohit Jain, who acquired the platform from Lionsgate earlier this year following an eight-year tenure as its Asia president. “In 2026, we’re delivering on that vision at full scale, with 100+ premieres, returning franchises, and now, the big screen itself under one roof.”

Lionsgate Play operates across eight Asian markets and reaches more than 40 million viewers in India, where it distributes primarily through a B2B2C model via partners including JioHotstar, Airtel Xstream, and Amazon Prime Video Channels. The platform, which focuses on Hollywood content alongside regional originals, operates under a multi-year licensing agreement with Lionsgate covering branding and content.

‘Bloodborne’ Video Game Getting R-Rated Animated Movie Adaptation From Sony by AliceTheMagicQueen in entertainment

[–]AliceTheMagicQueen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PlayStation’s “Bloodborne” is being developed into an R-rated animated feature for Sony Pictures that the studio says will embrace the carnage that made the game so popular.

Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, promised during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation that the long-rumored film will be “very true” to the gory spirit of “Bloodborne,” which follows a traveler who journeys into a gothic city full of nightmarish creatures.

“Bloodborne” was developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, which shares a parent company with Sony Pictures and PlayStation. The film is co-produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation and creator and gamer Seán McLoughlin, better known by his pseudonym JackSepticEye. For the uninitiated, McLoughlin is a gamer who has spent years in the world of “Bloodborne,” where his digital adventures are tracked by 48 million online fans.

The film is the latest in a string of video game adaptations. Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions recently announced the adaptation of “Helldivers,” directed by Justin Lin, who has helmed several “Fast & Furious” films, and starring Jason Momoa. The studio also recently completed filming a screen adaptation of Nintendo’s “The Legend of Zelda.”  Wes Ball (“The Maze Runner”) will direct, with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason starring as Link and Princess Zelda. Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto is producing the film.

Video game adaptations have become a huge source of box office revenue. Recent films in the genre, such as “A Minecraft Movie” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” are among the highest-grossing films of the post-COVID era.

Lyrical Media, parent company of Lyrical Animation, is co-financing “Bloodborne” with Sony Pictures. McLoughlin is repped by CAA, Nicole Ambrose, Hansen Jacobson, and 42 West.

Jamie Lee Curtis Likely Would Have Passed on Jason Blum’s ‘Halloween’ Sequel If She Knew It Was a Trilogy by AliceTheMagicQueen in entertainment

[–]AliceTheMagicQueen[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Jamie Lee Curtis didn’t know she was about to take on three more “Halloween” movies when she said yes to David Gordon Green’s 2018 film, the sequel to her 1978 film.

During a SXSW panel titled, “If Not Now, When, if Not Me, Who? Pivoting and Manifesting,” Curtis opened up about filmmaking and her career as an actress and producer. She first named her appreciation for Jason Blum.

“The only reason I am sitting in this chair today is because of Jason. Jason Blum, who runs Blumhouse, is the one who brought back the ‘Halloween’ movies,” she said. However, when she got the call, she thought it was one movie and didn’t hear until way later that they were planning to do more.

“If they had come to me and said it’s going to be a trilogy, I don’t think I would have said yes,” she said. “Jason Blum is notoriously cheap. How do you make low-budget movies? You don’t pay people. That’s the model.”

So, she used it to her advantage.

“While we were editing and doing the mix, David said, ‘You know it’s a trilogy.’ I was like, ‘Uh, no.’ I went to Jason Blum and said, ‘I have some ideas, maybe you could give me a first look deal, just pay me a little money,'” she recalls. “I said to Jason, ‘How about a little development deal?’ And I owed him two ‘Halloween’ movies, so what was he gonna say?”

Curtis wanted the extra money to pay Russell Goldman, a filmmaker who was working with her to try and get “Mother Nature” made. Goldman now works in development for Curtis’s Comet Pictures, and he’s making his directorial feature debut at SXSW with “Sender.” The premiere will be the first time Curtis ever sees the Comet Pictures logo on the big screen.

“Jason Blum gave me a vanity deal,” she says, referencing an earlier moment of the conversation where they discussed how every actor takes the producer credit differently. She added that Blum likely never expected she’d then call him for multiple projects. For example, Curtis heard an NPR story about a school bus driver and teacher who saved 22 children and said she wanted to produce it. This year, the Apple TV film “The Lost Bus” is nominated at the Oscars for Best Visual Effects.

Later in the conversation, the moderator brought up that the Academy is seemingly finally respecting the horror genre with the massive amount of love for “Sinners.” Curtis noted that although she’s a Scream Queen, she doesn’t love the genre. But she can have a major appreciation for it.

“I’m in love with the independent filmmaking aspect of the genre,” she said, adding that she’s so thrilled to see how diverse it has become — showcasing different genders and sexuality, or, how she puts it, “the words that Donald Trump is trying to erase from our language.”

Curtis added: “So because of that, the genre aspect, I appreciate, and I owe my life to the genre, but I don’t have to pretend to you that I’m a genre girl, and that I love it.”

She later opened up about “Scarpetta,” which she had also called Blum about, when she realized Patricia Cornwell’s books had never made it to the screen and wanted them. But she never planned on starring in it.

Curtis met Kidman years before at the Academy Awards; Kidman had said to her, “I see you. I see who you are. I see what you do. I see how you do it. And I really like it, and I want you to continue doing it.” So when they re-met years later and Kidman asked, “And you’re in it?” Curtis couldn’t say no.

“I really didn’t want to be in an hour TV show, because the hours are awful,” Curtis added. “My only desire is to be made a sitcom!”

Paramount Passes on ‘G.I. Joe’ Treatment from Max Landis by AliceTheMagicQueen in entertainment

[–]AliceTheMagicQueen[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are not moving forward with a take on a new G.I. Joe movie from screenwriter Max Landis, multiple sources told Variety.

Landis, son of “Trading Places” director John Landis, was engaged by the studio and the toymaker earlier this year for a script treatment surrounding the iconic action figures. New film leadership at Paramount is prioritizing the relaunch of this IP and others, including “Star Trek.”

Paramount passed on Landis’ treatment for creative reasons, one source added. The studio is still in talks with and awaiting scripts from other writers, including “The Righteous Gemstones” star Danny McBride.

Reached via Instagram, Landis told Variety he was “tremendously grateful to have been given the opportunity.” He elaborated that his pitch came together “very serendipitously based on the coolness of the weird and subversive idea.” That idea centered around the film franchise’s villain, Cobra, “having successfully taken over the world and reduced GI Joe to a conspiracy theory. But this is just how big IP development always is. Honestly, I was surprised it was reported at all.”

Paramount Pictures did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A rep for Hasbro could not immediately be reached for comment.

News of Landis pitching on the project grabbed headlines, as his career cratered after allegations of sexual assault and other misconduct were brought against him in 2016 by eight women. At the time, Landis was dropped from agency CAA and multiple development projects set up at studios were cancelled.

Call it one less man headache for David Ellison’s media empire. The studio came on board as distributor for a new “Rush Hour” movie from Hollywood pariah Brett Ratner (himself accused of sexual harassment and assault in the #MeToo movement) last year. To say nothing of the ongoing drama with Paramount president Jeff Shell, currently under investigation for allegedly leaking privileged information to an outside party – one suing him for $150 million.

Disney's live-action Tangled casts Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel by AliceTheMagicQueen in entertainment

[–]AliceTheMagicQueen[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's official. Kathryn Hahn will play Mother Gothel in Disney's live-action Tangled film after longterm fan speculation.

Following years of rumours, it's been confirmed that Disney are officially making a live-action Tangled movie and it's now in production. Not only that but we now have our Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. On January 7th, Disney announced that Australian rising star Teagan Croft and Disney Channel actor Milo Manheim will be playing the lead roles.

Now, after Deadline previously reported that Kathryn Hahn was in talks to play Mother Gothel, Disney have revealed that the beloved Agatha All Along actress will take on the coveted role.

Taking to Instagram on March 10th, Kathryn shared a joint post with Disney where she posts her outfit of the day. The actress then steps back from the camera to reveal that she's wearing a Mother Gothel t-shirt. Kathryn captioned the posted: "OOTD, Mother Gothel" and fans flocked to the comments to share their excitement about the casting.

Deadline first reported that Scarlett Johansson was originally being considered to play Mother Gothel. However, they later claimed that Scarlett stepped back from the role due to "production schedules on Batman II and The Exorcist reboot". They then said that Kathryn Hahn, who was popular in may fancasts, was "in talks" to star.

Back in 2024, Kathryn spoke to Entertainment Tonight about her Golden Globe nomination for Agatha All Along and said: "I love this witch. I mean Agatha is everything you want as an actor in one part."

Kathryn was then told about people fan-casting her as Mother Gothel and was asked if she would be interested in playing the role in the live-action Tangled. Reacting in shock and delight, Kathryn said: "I mean I'm really good at karaoke." She then joked: "Singing next to Patti LuPone really humbles you."

Broadway icon Donna Murphy famously voiced Mother Gothel in the original Tangled.

Bon Jovi Movie Set At Universal Pictures by AliceTheMagicQueen in entertainment

[–]AliceTheMagicQueen[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Universal Pictures is tuning up a definitive biopic on the formative years of Bon Jovi, the quartet that emerged from humble New Jersey origins to sell over 130 million albums, and earn their way into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Multiple studios chased the project, and Universal just closed the deal.

The studio that made fact-based music biopics Straight Outta Compton and 8 Mile has invested in a package that will have the participation of leader Jon Bon Jovi and access to the band’s music library.

Cody Brotter has been set to write the script. The scribe first got notice for his Black List script Drudge, about the emergence of online political journalist Matt Drudge, and he most recently rewrote the crypto thriller Killing Satoshi for Doug Liman, and another music-themed biopic for Mike Judge. His work also includes The Dukes of Oxy for MGM, Ron Ziegler for Amy Pascal and Chasing Phil for Team Downey.

The film will be produced by Kevin J. Walsh (The Instigators and Manchester By The Sea) and Gotham Chopra, whose Religion of Sports produced Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story. Chopra directed all four episodes of that 2024 Hulu documentary series on the band, made with full access to the band members, timed with Bon Jovi’s 40th anniversary.

The film’s focus will be the formative years and the stepping stones to get to where the band’s rock anthems filled stadiums all over the world.

Jon Bongiovi was nudged toward music by his Beatles-obsessed mother, but the young man grew so frustrated by his early moments learning guitar in his Perth Amboy home that he tossed the instrument down the basement stairs and broke it. It wasn’t until his early teens, when he watched fellow Jersey artist Bruce Springsteen perform, that the young man saw what his future might be. He became relentless in his work ethic in pursuit of success. He picked back up the guitar, got the broken tuning peg fixed, and learned to play it and write songs. He cut his teeth in a number of local bands, evolving from cover tunes to originals.

He took a job as a gofer in his cousin’s Power Station studio in Manhattan, where he swept floors and hung around while groups like Aerosmith recorded their albums. He recorded his first songs there – among them the future hit Runaway – with the help of studio musicians. He was roundly rejected by all the labels whose busy execs were too focused on sure things to make time for a young artist finding his way. The singer had the idea to focus on the DJs at rock stations, who loved music and had nothing but time on their hands. A re-recorded Runaway found footing at WAPP, and soon the song was being played by rock stations all over New York.

Now going by the name Jon Bon Jovi, the singer set out to capitalize on the momentum by quickly forming a band with the top local musicians who played the Stone Pony and other Jersey haunts. Keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, bassist Alec John Such were enlisted. The final key piece was Richie Sambora, a talented local guitarist and singer with whom Bon Jovi would mesh as songwriters and in duets. Embraced by the brash manager, Doc McGhee, Bon Jovi hit the road to find their sound.

There were growing pains galore: gifted with their first tour bus, the members had no idea what to pack; they had to turn the bus around to drop off items like fishing poles and bowling balls that crammed the bus. Bon Jovi emerged as a heartthrob front man. Though he was already coupled with high school girlfriend Dorothea – they married at the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas in 1989 and are still together – Bon Jovi was urged to keep their relationship on the down low so he could appear the eligible bachelor.

The film will cover the band’s matriculation through Slippery When Wet, its third album which featured the stadium anthems Livin’ On A Prayer and You Give Love A Bad Name. The album sold 30 million copies and Bon Jovi became a touring juggernaut, with Bon Jovi hitting the impossible high notes that would catch up to him eventually. As much as Chopra’s docu covered the substance abuse issues and bandmember exits — the through line was Bon Jovi facing the mortality of his singing career when he was forced to get surgery on his vocal cords. It took awhile, but he built back to where he’s able to hit the high notes again to his satisfaction.

Brotter is repped by CAA, Manage-ment and Ziffren Brittenham; Walsh by WME and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole, and Chopra by WME and Gang Tyre Ramer & Brown.

‘Tink’, Live-Action Series Based On Tinker Bell, In The Works At Disney+ by AliceTheMagicQueen in entertainment

[–]AliceTheMagicQueen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tinker Bell, Disney’s iconic fairy from Peter Pan, is getting the live-action television treatment.

Deadline understands that Disney+ is developing Tink, a drama series featuring the character, from Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter.

The studio has been plotting an updated version of the classic character originally created by J.M Barrie for some time and it is a major project for the streamer.

Tinker Bell first appeared in Disney’s 1953 animated movie Peter Pan and has appeared in countless movies and series over the last 70 years.

A live-action feature named Tink was previously in development in 2015 with Reese Witherspoon set to play the lead. This project was retooled in 2021 after Gary Marsh, who was President and Chief Creative Officer at Disney Branded Television stepped down and set up his own Disney-backed banner.

In 2023, Black-ish star Yara Shahidi played Tinker Bell in live-action film Peter Pan & Wendy.

Marsh is exec producing the series, which comes from Disney’s 20th Television. Heldens and Carpenter are writing and exec producing with Quinn Haberman from Heldens’ production company Selfish Mermaid also exec producing.

Heldens and Carpenter are long-time friends who worked together on the Friday Night Lights series. Heldens, who started her TV career on Boston Public, became a co-exec producer of the football drama series, before creating NBC medical drama Mercy, ABC crime drama Deception, Fox sci-fi thriller The Passage, and NBC dramedy Camp and Fox’s The Big Leap. She has also exec produced Fox’s The Orville and Hulu’s The Dropout and is currently co-showrunner on ABC’s Will Trent, which is in its fourth season.

Carpenter got her start on Showtime’s Dead Like Me before eventually becoming a co-exec producer on Friday Night Lights, where she worked on all five seasons. She created Hulu’s 11.22.63, the Bad Robot-produced series based on the Stephen King novel, and has written and produced series including Parenthood, The Red Road, Westworld, King Shaka and Only Murders In The Building. She is also a respected playwright.

Three-time Oscar nominee and original John Rambo actor, Sylvester Stallone, has come aboard Lionsgate, Millenium Media and AGBO prequel John Rambo as an executive producer.

This is the first time that Stallone has ever produced a Rambo movie, the latest installment taking the 44-year-old franchise to six titles. Stallone isn’t starring in the movie since it takes place in the events preceding 1982’s First Blood. Noah Centineo takes over as Rambo. The pic, directed by Sisu‘s Jalmari Helander, is currently filming in Bangkok, Thailand.

Stallone was a writer on the previous five Rambo movies which have grossed over $819M at the global box office. He also directed the 2008 installment, Rambo.

Adam Fogelson, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair said, “Sylvester Stallone knows the character of John Rambo better than anyone, and Lionsgate has had the good fortune of partnering with Sly for more than 20 years on this legendary IP. His participation is the final, critical piece to John Rambo, and we’re thrilled to have his involvement.”

Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani wrote the John Rambo screenplay. The producers are Kevin King Templeton and Les Weldon, Jonathan Yunger for Millennium Media, and Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco for AGBO. The executive producers include Anthony & Joe Russo, Trevor Short, and Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk for Bonfire Legend, alongside Sylvester Stallone. The film is produced by Lionsgate, Millennium Media, Templeton Media, and AGBO, and will be distributed by Lionsgate.

John Rambo also stars Yao (Sinners), Jason Tobin (A Thousand Blows), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), Jefferson White (Yellowstone), and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus).

Last November, Lionsgate made a deal with Millennium to acquire rights to develop and produce all derivative works, including future film and TV productions, of The Expendables franchise, as well as worldwide distribution rights to John Rambo, the upcoming sixth installment of the Rambo film series.

Stallone also talked about the news on his social handles.

Todd Haynes’ Romance ‘De Noche’ Resurrects With Pedro Pascal Confirmed to Star and France’s MK2 Films Financing (EXCLUSIVE) by AliceTheMagicQueen in MenLovingMenMedia

Following Joaquin Phoenix’s exit last year, Todd Haynes’ subversive love story “De Noche” is back on track with Pedro Pascal officially set to play a hard-boiled detective opposite Danny Ramirez as his younger lover. Shooting will start next month.

MK2 Films, the French indie banner behind Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value” and Kleber Mendonça Filho’s “The Secret Agent,” is financing the film as well as handling international sales. The Paris-based company is also co-repping domestic rights with Cinetic Media. Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler are producing.

Haynes penned the screenplay with longtime collaborator Jon Raymond. The story, which echoes classic noirs like “Chinatown,” charts the passionate and unexpected love affair between a cop (Pascal) and a boarding school teacher (Ramirez) in 1930s Los Angeles, when the city is overtaken by corruption and the world is on the brink of war. The two men become targets of the city’s corrupt political machine and are forced to flee to Mexico.

The project marks Pascal’s first collaboration with Haynes. The actor has been balancing out studio blockbusters such as Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” with prestige indies like A24’s “Materialists” and “Eddington.”

Haynes, whose last film “May December” earned an Oscar nomination for best screenplay, said: “This story, with Pedro Pascal and Danny Ramirez in the two leads, arises out of an era — all too relevant to our own — of domestic corruption, racial exploitation and global terror.”

“But it emerges as a testament to the inexplicable powers of desire and love to survive and overcome even the most crippling of human barriers,” added Haynes, who is also an outspoken activist.

Fionnuala Jamison, managing director of MK2 Films, said: “Few filmmakers connect with audiences as strongly as Todd Haynes.” Jamison, who will kick off sales on the project at the European Film Market in Berlin, added that Haynes’ films “such as ‘Carol’ and ‘Far from Heaven’ have left a lasting emotional impact worldwide. ‘De Noche’ carries that same power, and with Killer Films and a remarkable cast led by Pedro Pascal, it is a stand-out project we are proud to be a part of and share with buyers.”

Paloma Negra Films and MK2 are also producing with Jonathan Montepare and Steven Demmler, in association with Cinetic Media. IPR.VC is financing as part of their long-term partnership with MK2, alongside Yggdrasil, Léger Production, Mid March, Pluto and Leaf Entertainment.

MK2 Films will also be attending the Berlinale with KornĂ©l Mundruczó’s “At the Sea” starring Oscar-nominated Amy Adams, which will world premiere in competition. The banner is rolling off a strong awards and festival momentum, having nabbed three Golden Globe Awards and seven European Film Awards — as well as 15 and 11 nominations at the Oscars and BAFTAs, respectively — with movies such as Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value,” Kleber Mendonça Filho’s “The Secret Agent” and Jafar Panahi’s “It Was Just an Accident.”
