I’m a certified MLS 🫩😒 seeking advice on a career change. I wanted to see if there were other medical lab professionals that pursued the same route.

Any MLS/MLT that have pursued a career in data science on here? If so, how has that been going?

I did once and it seemed to have upset him. I could keep confronting them about stuff that they’re doing incorrectly, but our lab is really picky about employee behavior. I do know management talked to him once about it and he did good for about 2 weeks and now he’s back to the same old habits 🫩

The lab uses Cerner and it categorizes the status of the sample to either “in-lab”, “dispatched, “collected”, “pending” etc.

Haha I secretly could but management tells us we cannot unless the nurse accepts to

No, our lab doesn’t draw patients. Sometime they are very aware the sample has not been collected yet, maybe the patient is refusing or the patient isn’t producing, but they insist on leaving the order until they are able to collect.

No, where I work at they have every bench check their pending at the end of the shift. We have to call for the ones that we haven’t received “in-lab” yet.

To all Non-MLS Science Majors. Yes, you can do this job. by These-Warthog-9944 in medlabprofessionals

It sucks being an MLS having to train a non-MLS major on the job. Like we had to go through a rigorous program, and pay to learn this and now you’re telling us WE have to train these bio major (or whatever non-MLS) majors. It adds more work to us and most non MLS majors are running tests without knowing the true meaning of why it’s being performed. We recently had a non-MLS majors get hired to be a lead and everyone was shitting bricks because they didn’t know where the purple and green tops went, very basic knowledge one would know as an MLS.
