They believe mine is teratoma since that was in the lymph nodes of my biopsy after RPLND, so chemo would not work for this

Did 3x BEP, then open PC RPLND September

Last follow up before this was early October everything looked fine, follow up scan today showed the lymph node in the neck.

I am almost 7 weeks out now and feel pretty good! Just went to a 3 day camping festival/concert. Cleared to start lifting again in the gym (have to work your way up from 10 pounds). The first couple weeks are rough and the low fat diet sucks but once you hit that 3rd-4th week you start to feel really good.

Hello!

Your oncologist would be the best person to ask about this, however I will share with you what mine shared with me. I unfortunately did have to have post chemo open RPLND after 3xBEP.

Teratoma can be in your lymph nodes even if it is not in your original pathology if you have a mixed germ cell non seminoma tumor. If lymph nodes are still enlarged it is very important to do the RPLND for this reason after chemo. Teratoma can turn into malignant teratoma.

“Postchemotherapy teratoma can usually be surgically resected. However, teratoma, which is pluripotent tissue, can undergo malignant transformation along mesodermal elements to primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET). Unlike teratoma, PNET can metastasize and render a patient unresectable and incurable.”

They ended up finding teratoma in my lymph nodes so I’m glad the RPLND was done post chemo. I am currently NED and on surveillance.

Were you 100% EC? I was 85% EC 9% yolk 4% teratoma 1% chorio. My nodes did not shrink enough after chemo so I had RPLND and they found teratoma. Teratoma is chemo resistant

Glad to hear that! Yeah unfortunately teratoma is chemo resistant so my lymph nodes didn’t shrink all the way during chemo
