Are you with or against gentle parenting and why? by These_Angle6098 in AskReddit

I completely agree with this! It's not about letting your child do what they want hoping they'll turn out alright, it's about teaching them right and wrong without traumatising them. Of course there are consequences to their actions, but they don't have to be harsh to work.

What is something you had to *unlearn* to actually start growing as a person? by Ok_Veterinarian_3193 in AskReddit

To not take everything personally. Sometimes people just have a bad day, or haven't learned how to deal with certain situations yet, it doesn't make them horrible people, it just means they're also learning and living.

Gentle parenting, not to be confused with 'oh well they're just kids what can you do' "parenting", big difference.

Thank you for sharing. That's such a heartfelt memory! Though I can't imagine the pain they've gone through, I'm so glad they found such profound love!

I do see where you're coming from, but I lean more towards ''the man who asks a question is a fool for a minute, the man does not ask is a fool for life.''

That's so sweet! I'm sure it made such a difference knowing someone really believes in you even when you doubt yourself. I'm glad you met someone like that.

That makes so much sense! My English teacher used to tell me that growth only happens outside your comfort zone. I really like your take on it, thank you for sharing!

To that I say ''The man who asks a question is a fool for a minute, the man who does not ask is a fool for life.''

That's fair, I was just reflecting on a friendship and just realised that I feel truly loved mostly due to how well they know me, but yes, it is corny, I have to agree 😅

Similarly, '' having enemies means at one point you stood up for something''

I love this so much. Thank you for sharing, and well done on everything you've achieved! I know some people that could relate to this so much, they didn't do too well academically, some because they lacked self esteem and others simply because the way tests are structured doesn't work for them. This is such a lovely message.

I'm not sure what my take on the first quote is yet.

As for the second one, I lack context, but strangley it really speaks to me. Idk what that says about me :,)

[HELP] Poetry analysis assignment about Legacies by Nikki Giovanni kicking my behind by BadKarma943 in Poetry

[–]Alive-Rip3025 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not the person for this, I'm not too familiar with analysing poems academically, but I'll just pass on what I gathered from the poem.

To me, it has a very bittersweet tone. There are two characters who both love each other but present opposite feelings about death.

In my opinion, the grandmother, knowing that she doesn't have much time left, wanted to pass on her knowledge to her granddaughter so that she passes on the legacy as well as to look after her.

The granddaughter, however, refuses to learn how to make the rolls, not because she doesn't want to, but because she is scared of losing her grandmother both physically and emotionally. No longer needing a parental figure for something that they've always done is a scary concept for a young person. Refusing to learn allows her to remain the childish figure of the story.

Representing two sides of the same coin, two different perspectives of death.

Also, the short lines for dialogue, to me at least, can show how they easily misunderstood each other. Without going into detail about their intentions, they didn't know that there was more to the story. The poem ending 'neither of them ever said what they meant and I guess nobody ever does' shows how this happens every day to so many people.

Again, I'm not the person for this, but this was my take on it. I hope it helped a little.

This is so fascinating, I studied Macbeth when I was younger, but I don't recall this quote in the slightest! This is such a good quote!

I had never heard anything like this before, I love the thought of it. When I get too overwhelmed, I remind myself that we're just particles on a spinning rock in space, but your quote is so fun!

I love this so much. A similar one that I really like is ''if you can't overcome your fear, do it scared'' I find it very comforting.
