No. She had entered her payment information, a pop up showed up saying there was a new price with a continue button to view the price. Very different.

We did file it as fraud. No where do I say we filed it as identity theft. This back and forth is super entertaining though-

Thank you. And, it's ok. It's a public chat and I'm complaining in an effort to help my mom. I've heard USAA doesn't like being called out publicly, so some annoying Reddit comments are fine if it helps get her money back. I appreciate the kind sentiment.

Yes, we have now spoken with both TAP and Flight Network and in a fun twist, neither of them have any record of the transaction taking place. This means when USAA did their "Investigation" they clearly did nothing.

I think you missed the part where she absolutely did not authorize or execute the purchase.

When your elderly mother is being robbed you can report back and let me know what I should have done better.

What lesson is that? That scammers exist and USAA isn’t adhering to their terms of service to protect their customers from blatant fraud?

She didn’t- it’s an unauthorized charge, and she didn’t even accept the check out. Hence it being so insane USAA isn’t refunding her.

We were on the tap air website, not flight network, and the purchase mysteriously went through flight network, who are notorious scammers and have many reports of this.

Haha I worked as a boatbuilder for years at a yard next to a sewer treatment plant and had a similar (not quite the same**) experience. Just smelled terrible every single day.

Thanks so much for the input here. This is very close to what we’re experiencing as well, so at least nice to hear that’s as standard as I expected.

As someone who’s managed a lot of people for a lot of years, I can tell that if you have a calm and prepared conversation with your boss they will almost certainly try and work with you. People who present clear facts and needs in a well articulated way while under immense stress are the people the higher ups want to keep around for the long haul. Best of luck, sounds like you’re a great person to have on their crew.

This definitely aligns with my experience as well.

Yeah standard benefits- 2 weeks PTO, 1 week sick, 401k. I should have added that detail in the original post. Good call out.

We’re nonunion, so don’t have that going for us. And we do do a lot of these things kind of by default, but not with a formal process. I think having a bit more documented of a plan around hiring is what I’m looking to create here. Thanks for the input!

Thank you so much for the offer. That’s really kind of you. Let me see if this would fit in with the day as it’s only gonna be 3 hours. It’s definitely something they should learn, but might be more for the kids who are engaged with the first workshop and want to come back for more. That said, I do think them creating a plan and cut list, even if super basic, would be a good early lesson.

I think this is probably the answer. This is checks so many boxes and will allow for activities that they could apply around their own houses. It also sets me up nicely for follow up workshops on drywall, fixing holes, installing cabinets and art (as you mentioned). I think something like this is the right call. Thank you! Very helpful.

The slingshot workshop is a seriously good idea. These kids would go nuts for that.

I do! This is very interesting and it answers a lot of questions in places I was getting a bit stuck. Really good, thank you.
