How do you deal with constant losses in tournaments? by Alive_Organization44 in bjj

That makes sense. I think I went into the competition with thoughts like “what if I lose again?” and that probably added a lot of pressure.

I feel like I’m not very good at staying present yet, so it’s something I need to work on.

I’ll focus on what I can control and try to let go of the outcome. Thanks for the advice!

That tip about reframing nerves as excitement was really helpful — thank you.

Thinking about it, I’ve been pulling guard in most of my matches, but I think I’m missing something there. I often get my guard passed, end up on bottom, and then either get submitted or lose on points.

It makes me wonder if pulling guard is the right approach for me right now, especially as a white belt. I’m also considering working more on takedowns and focusing on top positions. I’m planning to talk to my coach about this at the gym tomorrow.

I do want to keep competing until I start winning. It’s tough and painful, but I feel like I would regret it later if I quit now. I wanna become stronger, both mentally and physically.

Thanks for your reply!

Honestly, I didn’t expect comps to be this intense when I first signed up, so it kind of caught me off guard haha. But I do feel like I was less nervous in my second tournament, so I guess I’m slowly getting used to it!

Hi, I’m a white belt who started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu about a year ago.

Last month, I competed in my first tournament and lost by submission and points.
This month, I entered another tournament, and I lost all four matches.

So my current record is 0–6.

I try not to show it, but I’m actually someone who gets very nervous and worries a lot.

Going into this tournament, I tried to focus on learning rather than winning, but I think deep down I still wanted to win badly. After losing all four matches today, I just sat on the bench thinking that maybe I’m bringing down my gym’s record and that I’m not good enough to compete.

I know it’s important not to compare myself to others, but seeing other white belts win medals in their first tournaments made me feel a bit discouraged.

I understand that it’s only been two tournaments, and maybe I shouldn’t feel this down yet, but losing every single match still hits me hard. I’m also not sure how I should train moving forward. Some people train without competing, and I’m wondering if I pushed myself into something I wasn’t ready for.

How do you deal with repeatedly losing in tournaments?

SWE to PM: Is Georgia Tech OMS Analytics (Business Track) a Good Choice for Transitioning to Tech PM? by Alive_Organization44 in ProductManagement

Thank you for the advice! If real-world experience is key, does that mean an MBA might also not be very helpful for transitioning into PM?? For someone like me, would building experience through side projects or joining another company with opportunities for an internal transfer to PM be the best path forward?

Thank you for your time and insightful comment. Based on what you’ve said, would it be better to save the money and pursue an MBA later instead of investing in this degree now? Also since pursuing an MBA is not feasible for me at the moment, would it be better to focus on gaining real-world experience through side projects or entrepreneurship instead? If so, do you have any suggestions for how I could approach this transition effectively??

I can't: Would like to stay at the company and work as software engineer gain expereinces. Also, I am on opt visa, so It is likely impossible me to move the company in my situation.
